I noticed twice now, when in 1st or 2nd, on decelaration, pops outa gear?
Is that an adjustment?, bad shift lever bushings?

You have problem with the synchroniser hub assembly....I had the same issue. If your First, Second pop out under deceleration, or Reverse pops out, that is the problem. A rebuild is in order, and replace bad parts.

I agree but it still wouldn't hurt to make shifter adjustments. If anything, quit decel in 1st and 2nd to make it last until you dig into it.

And I agree here also Cranky, except IMHO, shifter adjustments are more easily identified by difficulty in shifting gears either way - up or down....just saying. :D

You could always keep your hand on the shifter so it won’t pop out of gear.
Lol!

Time to tear into and replace the syncro’s.

Had a trans that did fine up shifting but popped out when decel.....and yeah, things are not right when it's doing that.

It shifts beatifully all thru the gears....except when taking out of reverse to go into 1st, really have to tug it to move...

My uncle's GTX did that, only replacing synchros like these guys said cured it...sorry I know it's no fun!

really have to tug it to move...
.....best let RC have that one

Is there such thing as a synchro kit?

Our rebuild stuff was from Brewer's...we did the whole sha-bang because the car was getting a resto anyway, but they should have what you need..check 'em out

Could be just the synchro rings or it could be worn synchro teeth on the gears or worn faces on the shift forks or worn teeth in the synchro sliders or the shift linkage not fully allowing the sliders to engage the gears...The only way to find out is to remove it from the car and open it up. Good luck. Hope it's just the synchro rings.

One other posibility. Does your shifter have stop bolts? If so they may be adjusted in to far.

As they say, nothings forever. But first I'd try tightening up any slop I could in the shift linkage such as bushings worn, rod ends, loose tabs and lubricate. Reset all neutral positions. Road test. Afterward it's not going to hurt you to make a turn on the adjusts to tune the shift throws. I adjust them one rod at a time (easier for me to remember, lol) and road test . You can always adjust back to where it was "better".
IMO, Work the easier minors first but plan for the majors.

All of the above. Just have to tear in. Doubt it's shift stops on a Hurst shifter as they act on 2nd and 3rd gear - not 1st. If you have to replace the syncro sliders, you might want to consider torque-lock sliders. They help lock in the gear engagement teeth under acceleration and deceleration. A good idea if your gears look a little worn but still serviceable. I don't know anything about A833 insides but on a Toploader it's best to avoid reproduction gears from China unless absolutely necessary - thus torque-lock sliders can compensate for this to some degree. Here's a picture of what one looks like with the undercut/tapered splines.
