my clutch pedal wont come back up...(like somethings wrong with the return spring...got home checked it and the springs seems fine...(how many springs are there?(there one inside hooked onto the dash and another one underneath next to the z bar)wha else should i be checking??had the mech come down he said id have to take the trans out(could be the fork or return spring???any help would be appreciated

sounds like you **** a pressure plate. the pressure plate is the main return spring. or could be throw-out bearing. either way youre taking the tranny out!

Did you just put a new clutch in or is this the clutch you've been running and it suddenly started doing it? If you're running a diaphragm clutch, you need to remove the overcenter spring on the pedal. (The one under the dash).

Throwout bearing pushed through the diagphram probably, You said you had a driveline noise in another thread it was most likely the throwout bearing you were hearing.

I just put together a 440 4 speed w/hays 130 tooth flywheel and a zoom clutch in a 70 roadrunner. Well the clutch held up for about 20 miles of break in the motor driving, then when I started really launching it hard(4.10 rear gears) it smoked the clutch pretty bad. Now it drives but as soon as you get on it in any gear it just slips. Is this my cheapo clutch choice or what, I can adjust it but I don't think that's the problem. All parts were new also I can't really see my z bar linkage being the problem, car also has a lakewood bellhousing...so time for a real clutch?

I've had so many probs with clutches in my 383 RR that years ago I went to an auto trans. Ive done it to several cars now and never regretted it. Pressure plate, disc, throwout bearing, linkage, all gave me problems. Can't imagine how a clutch holds up behind a hi torque 440 or bigger. Plus with auto trans you don't have to let off the gas when shifting gears! Much simpler, easier to work on, and it stays fixed! But to all you 4 speed die hards, Good Luck!
