426 max wedge engine

There we go, back in business.

I think it's over priced 2-3k there are a lot of incorrect parts on that motor for that kind of money not to mention the manifolds look to be repro & maybe one is even cracked down by the flange even if I needed those dates & stampings I'd never pay $8500 for that. the rods even look like there maybe incorrect.

Two yrs ago on the Dodge Charger forum there was complete original 62 motor pulled from a 32 K mile car,100% complete that went for $12.5 in three days and it didn't have to go to eBay.As for his buy it now I have seen built 440's close to that. Start pricing individual parts and you'll see it adds up real quick. If you do an eBay search you may find the original Max Wedge oil pan that sold for $3 K.

Here is what I know. Based on the pics it's a 62 block so it's a 413/426. The pistons are older aftermarket TRW (factory pistons look like they were made my TRW but have Chrysler P/N). The heads are early because of aluminum rocker pedestals and should be 4 bolt valve covers. The rods do not look like early MW or 300J (same). There is evidence of the factory cut bore notch. The stamp numbers indicate a 426 so at best this is a 63 426 max perf high compression. Interesting swinging oil pick up and looks to be 1/2". Mine is 3/8". 64 has it's own block, heads and rods. I have this exact same engine in my 69 RR only because I owned it for 35 years.

There's a fool for every seat 5 years ago I bought a complete unmolested never taken apart all original motor & T85 with all the correct parts never hurt standard bore for 12k still doesn't mean this motor is a good deal.

Doesn't mean it isn't either !

For anyone interested in acquiring a maxwedge, I urge them to check out Greg Lane's racehemimaxwedge.com page. A giant wealth of info on maxes and early race hemi stuff. My info here comes from Greg's site.
As for the engine under discussion.... The block and head numbers are right for an early 63 426 max (looks like a late 62 casting date on the block). And that may be a correct max oil pan, which was worth a fortune before they were repopped. The swinging pickup also suggests the correct pan .
The question I have is the intake. 750 carbs would be the large air cleaner, equal sized carb throat intake, and it should be the earlier small sized air cleaner 3447 600cfm carbs (which are much more rare and expensive than the 3705 750cfm version.) I would want to look for a date code on the intake, and an i.d. on the carbs.
What hurts the value of the engine under discussion , as noted before by other guys here, is that it is .100 over already, so,in my opinion, the walls are a little thin for a 11 1/2 motor. Those pistons could definitely be cut to lower the compression . I sure would.

Just a FYI Greg lane is in the hospital & not doing very well.. also that motor would / should of been a 13-5 compression not 11-5 & personally that motor is worth about 6k in parts to the right guy & hoping the carbs are correct, intake isn't cut, heads aren't cut to death or damaged if there's no other surprises which I probably wouldn't get my hopes up.

The 413 h.c. was 13 1/2 -1, the 426s were lowered to 12 1/2 -1. And the pistons in it now are "11 1/2-1" 440 TRWs. They are really about 10 1/2-1 in a undecked 440 block with open chamber heads.
As you, said, we dont know if or how much the block or heads have been decked, the compression is only an educated guess. But , if that was my motor, and i intended to run it in something, i sure wouldn't use those pistons as they are!
Also, very sorry to hear that Mr. Lane is not doing well. Get well soon sir!

the factory HC blocks in 63 where still 13-5 & didn't drop to 12-5 until 64
