I have wondered about this for years if the 426W that just went in my 69 RR is a max wedge block. I had this engine since the 80's and got it with all the MW stuff (cross ram, heads, early 300J rods, and a bore notched block). The part that is curios is the cast number does not correlate to a MW block as per Galen book, but it has what I believe to be factory cut bore notches. It also has a 3/8" oil pick up. The block isn't stamped either. Casting date is somewhere in 62 and believed to start life as a 413. Can anyone say for certain what this is?

Now to address the questions for all who wonder why I'm putting a 62 block in my 69 car. This car is slowly becoming a functioning tribute to my past. A rolling piece of local history with the actual parts that were used in the 80 by three different people all assembled in one car. So I thought it was a good idea. And yes, all those guys will have their turn in the pilots seat bending a few needles.

Sounds like a great project Meep! Wow 3 different suppliers...I'm sure their proud of your efforts!

426 Max Wedge Blocks only had the 1/2 inch oil pickup.

413 Max Wedges had a 3/8 pickup so did the 413 ,300J blocks .But without the id it's impossible to tell .What is the casting # ?

i believe the 426 wedge didnt come out until mid 63 as for galen's book & casting numbers i wouldnt bet my life on that being 100% correct as i've pulled 413's from trucks with supposed mw casting numbers.

without anymore info i'm guessing you might have a bored 413 but either way it should be a great & fun ride

I'll try to look at the casting number tomorrow, but I do recall when I looked it up it crossed over to 413 / 426. The 3/8" pick up only on 413's makes sense so I probably should assume I have a 413 based block. My best guess is I have a replacement or over the counter block.

"i've pulled 413's from trucks"
the maxie block and the truck block are the same.

apologies the street wedge & truck blocks are the same the mw hc or hp are slight different

Looks like we need your block casting number...
