I have wondered about this for years if the 426W that just went in my 69 RR is a max wedge block. I had this engine since the 80's and got it with all the MW stuff (cross ram, heads, early 300J rods, and a bore notched block). The part that is curios is the cast number does not correlate to a MW block as per Galen book, but it has what I believe to be factory cut bore notches. It also has a 3/8" oil pick up. The block isn't stamped either. Casting date is somewhere in 62 and believed to start life as a 413. Can anyone say for certain what this is?
Now to address the questions for all who wonder why I'm putting a 62 block in my 69 car. This car is slowly becoming a functioning tribute to my past. A rolling piece of local history with the actual parts that were used in the 80 by three different people all assembled in one car. So I thought it was a good idea. And yes, all those guys will have their turn in the pilots seat bending a few needles.
