Please tell me that im not the only one who has been confused when it comes to id pad stamps vs block numbers!! From months of research and many people telling me my motor is probly.... #1 an industrial reverse rotation block. #2 a factory replacement block. #3 marine application. #4 1966? and a few more. I seen and read alot and im starting to think that no one really knows exactly what is going on with id pad stamps? You would think that a B426 would be a 1966 right? My block says 1 22 65 what gives?

ID Pad: 426W installed Jan 20, 1966

Casting #2532230 is for a 66 426 Wedge cast in 22 (?), 1965. The month is too hard to see in your picture.

I took a good look and the month is a 4.

2532230 lists as 64-66 426 rb in any book and not just 66 specifically.

I have always heard rumors of some 66 dodge CSS trucks slipping out with 426 street wedges in them. What kind of pan is on it and is it marked HP by chance?

I only listed 66 because it is obviously a 66 model. Yes, the casting number is from 64-66, but yours is 66.

Your engine is correctly ID'ed as per the posts, but you dont say what, if any is the known install history to help figure out your mystery. The casting number is correcly in this range and the date stamp indicates an automotive install. This engine was phased out by the 440 in passenger cars in 1966 but that doesnt mean left over inventory wasnt put in cars to use them up. The industrial /marine uses kept going longer and naturally these have found there way into cars. Usually the industrial and marine stampings have other codes like 426 M or the house power code name as an identifier. The max wedge blocks had a different casting number.

I guess ill never know exactly what car it came from. all I know is im glad I have it and its gonna live in my 64 polara hopefully this spring. thnks for your replies :) any other thoughts are appreciated.

Rush, The guy who runs the website = maxwedge.com is absolutely an archive of all things wedge & hemi.. There is a question box available on the website. He does this as a hobby so, don't expect an answer in 3 minutes, but I have not been able to ask him a question he hasn't known the answer too. He literally is THE expert I consult on anything max wedge or early race hemi identification.

...This engine was phased out by the 440 in passenger cars in 1966 but that doesnt mean left over inventory wasnt put in cars to use them up. ...

I had an early 1966 Service manual for the Dodge full size cars and there the 426 was still listed as opposed to the 440 that was phased in later that year. About 10 years ago I saw a 1966 4dr Polara cop car on E-bay with a factory B426 engine. Chances are your block is from an early 1966 C-body. I have a 65 426w myself, just a bare block. However, it will too probably end up in a 64 :)
