440 6 pack or Gen III hemi

I missed your location.
I still stand by what I said, but for your situation I think you made a good choice.
Yes I agree. You should of course bulid what you want/need. I would like to have a 500whp stock appearing RB stroker with roller cam and a rough idle, but it would not be the right choise for what I have in mind.

To me, the old school stuff is not that hard to get good power and economy out of. I went with modern short skirt, low drag pistons and rings (10.2:1), aluminum heads and Edelbrock Proflow 4 XT SEFI. The Edelbrock has a 90mm throttle body, sequential port injection, timing control and fully tuneable software. I also went modern serpentine accessories with a low loss Sanden compressor and power steering pump. It's my idea of a modern take on a classic engine. It should make a reliable 450-500HP on pump gas. I'll get it on a dyno once the car is back together.

For my money - I would go with the six pack. But that’s becuase I had one. If you’re in Europe and have lots of money and just want the drivability of the car I think the gen iii might be your best choice. I’m a little more old school with these cars and would like to see them stay in largely their original state. If you don’t care about that then go with the gen iii.

Hi everyone. New member to the forum, but been reading threads for years. Anyways, I'm looking at building a 71 gtx or roadrunner and am trying to get opinions on engine choice. I'm currently debating either a Gen III hemi or building a 440-6 pack with the kit from FB throttle bodies. The goal is reliability as I plan to make this car my daily driver. Besides cost what else should I consider. I want to run an air grabber hood with air conditioning. I also prefer an automatic due to bay area traffic.

I just finished my swap of a 2006 5.7 out of a Magnum, into my 68 Dodge Coronet 440. Ran for a few months witht he stock 904, then recently found a used a41 and I love it. I'm running MSD Hemi6 ignition and MSD Atomic TBI for fuel. Also,a TCi TCU for the A41. Just driving it with the 904 was already enjoyable but now the A41 is awesome. I've got 3.91 gears with about 28.1 " tall tires and run about 2550 rpm at 82 mph. 2 saturdays I calculated my mileage to be about 17 mpg at worst.

I swapped the 6.1L Hemi in my 68 about 9 years ago - amazing engine from the get-go and the newer 6.4 and 5.7s are even better - they are a great base, respond well to mods, and have lots of support - bolting on into your car is a bolt in deal these days compared to what I had to go though. It's as easy as that. A take out 5.7 will cost like... $1000 and probablt make as much hp as your average big block - add a cam, headers, tune and you're well over 425hp.

Old school engines are great as well - building a 440 currently for my Polara - but that will be a day 2 build for street abuse a couple times a month maybe... not for a daily driver.
