The linkage in the picture from the FSM you posted is identical to the linkage in my 66 Chrysler which is not a cable shifted trans like that in your 63. 65 was kinda a weird model year for the transmission as they were column shifted but still cable actuated like the old pushbutton models. I dont know that I would take the advice in that FSM as gospel. You can buy the FSM for your car on DVD for relatively cheap on ebay, and that is the place I would look for the correct procedure to set up your kickdown linkage.

from all the info i can get it looks like it will have to be a multi piece kickdown for a 440 engine to make it work right with a 63 pushbutton 727 it doesnt kickdown like a later 727
