Just starting to put together the newly machined 440.

This motor will be a wedge wanne be with the dual quad setup.

I'm wondering if it would be better to break in the motor with a regular 4B intake and swap to dual later?

Thanks

You could but why not just start it up using the rear carb and only using the primaries to do the initial fire up and cam break in?

My .02 worth: Put on the set-up you're going to run. No problem as long as the carbs aren't dumping fuel. Why go through all the hassle?

Unless you have an intake that is a fuel distribution nightmare (STR or Weiand six pack tunnel ram) then just put it together once. The Max Wedge cross ram is pretty good as is so I would start out with it. As a matter of fact I did just that once upon a time and no issues. I was running two Holley 600 DPs with stock jetting and it ran fine.

Thanks for the input guys.....I'll bolt on the crossram and save my self the hassle.

I would brake it in with a known well running intake/carb. Don't need more questionable issues on a brake in beyond a new motor.

This 440 is fresh and the cam and intake were on a 413 .40 over before it spun a rod bearing so it shouldn't be a problem.

Cheers

Damn you take some purdy photos!!

The mob has spoken so we will run what we brung. Our friends near Seattle run a '64 stock eliminator car that runs a 426 cross ram MW. They had an issue once when firing their new motor where too much fuel washed down the cylinder walls, ruining the ring seal. We don't want to see this here.

330wagons last combo after the cross ram was a known good 4bbl intake and carb so thought we would break everything in with that.

Boy thats a nice looking wagon ! I would break it in with the setup you plan to run. As long as you know the carbs are not flooding out and working good just go with the crossram. There is a ton of nostalgic racers out there who always break in their engs with the crossrams on them. Ron
