440 build advice

My 2 cents. How much HP are you after? Decide how much flow it takes to get that. Don't scrimp! Get the best you can afford. That's the question only you can answer. Flow numbers are available from most head manufacturers.

The EDE RPM's are pretty good. Don't think they flow as much as advertised, but? Trick Flows sure look nice (no personal experience). You can make well over 500 HP with a 906 style head and a number of hours porting. The new heads are a lot easier to get the flow & HP. Cam selection and torque converter (if auto) are real keys.

That's what I keep hearing about.. I don't want something to radical in cam wise..

I'm rebuilding my 72 440 any suggestions on aluminum heads source 440 or Eldebrock heads? Going with 10.1-1 pistons. Thinking about ordering Eldebrock top end kit. Just want to hear about those Source heads??

The trick flow heads look more expensive at first, but they are one of the best "out-of-the-box" heads that I know of. Order the version with the correct valve springs, and bolt them on.
Many people getting stealth or RPM heads (Like me) don't use the valve springs/retainers that come with the heads, then they do some port clean-up and a new valve job, or they send them out to be fully ported so they flow about what the Trick flow heads do out of the box.
I think the TF heads do need a specific rocker arm assembly which is not cheap, but it is likely an upgrade that would be made with any of the other heads, unless doing a really budget build with mild cam and stock rocker arms. I did not actually check to see what rockers work with the Trick Flow heads, I just used their part number for the HS 1.6:1 ratio rocker arms. I have had my cylinder head guy check out and bench flow several heads. We have flowed the Stealth heads stock, and with clean-up mild port work, the Brodix B1-B/S heads (already had stage1 porting from Koffels), Victor MW in stock, mild ported, and the Hughes Monster CNC ported versions, and the Trick Flow 240 heads (out of the box.)
The trick flow heads actually flowed as advertised (around 330 cfm) which I think is better then the out of the box MW Victor heads were, and much better than any of the other stock port window heads, most of which needed work just to get them to their advertised flows of about 280-290 cfm?

On the other hand, the Stealth heads do look more like a stock head than any other aluminum head, and they are inexpensive, and will work with a mild cam and stock rocker arms. I am actually running a set of stealth heads on the 505" stroked 440 in the convertible because I originally wanted the stock look, but as mentioned, we did do some bowl and valve seat blending and hand porting to the heads along with a valve job to get mid 280s flow out of them. Because that engine runs a hydraulic roller cam the valve springs and retainers were also changed. I also ended up running HS rocker arms on those stealth heads, so in the end I really did not save much money using those heads, and they did cost me more in time and labor.

Well my motor was taken apart it has low comp pistons which I figured now to rebuild this motor with 10-1 piston height. And go from thereup.
Wanted some advice was told about a motor done a 543 stroker with eagle kit 529 cam 906 ported heads 1.5 roller rockers elde high rise with 850 Holley said 11-1 cr also has 727 trans built w/ 3200 stall I saw a video of it running 4K what everyone think
