Hey guys...
Building up my 440 for a '67 GTX and have a couple of questions (YES, want to run pump gas, right now thinking 10:1 comp)...

The block is a 67 440 bored .03", aligned, decked, etc
Have Edelbrock performer RPM heads (84cc and max lift .6")
Comp Cam xtreme Energy XE285HL lift .545/.545 duration 285/297 (have 727 tranny with 3000 stall)
Eagle H Beams (standard 6.76 stroke) and flat top pistons
I have an Indy 440 single plane intake (not sure if I use or trade)
Also have a couple of carbs 850 up to 1050 to play with
At this point I know I'll be pushing upper 500HP - this is just a street car - no track

Here are my questions:

1) For the Eddy heads, what are my options for rockers? Should i go with rollers or standard? Any advantage to each? Also, which particular rockers are a good choice?

2) Main girdle necessary or just a good idea?

3) Finally, the intake...single plane sufficient (to maximze power)? Anybody with a proven build similar to mine?

Guys, thanks in advance for your help.

Similar????? Some things are......

67 440 block .030" over bore, Standard stroke forged steel crankshaft, Studded mains with Girdle, Scatt H-Beam connecting rods, Forged pistons .140" domes, "Victor style" aluminum Heads 75cc heart shaped chambers, 1.6:1 roller rockers "designed for Victor offset", Custom length pushrods, .040" thick Fel-Pro head gaskets, Hasting file fit racing rings, Victor intake "4150 style", Holley 850cfm 4150 carb "too small", Mopar performance solid lifter camshaft 590 lift "630 lift @ 1.6:1 ratio", Mallory Unilite ignition "non-vac advance style", Autolite spark plugs, MSD coil, electric driven water pump, twin electric fans on radiator.......
I use a 10gal aluminum fuel cell, 140 gph electric fuel pump, 1/2" aluminum fuel line to the front, 8-an braided line from regulator to filter attached to 8-AN braided carb fuel line.
I probably missed something........
OH,, 2" primary headers to stainless dual exhaust back to rear axle housing.

Roller rockers are a plus but it's best to stick with a proven company, for me it's Harland Sharp, Crane, or Comp Cam. Be careful of all the new cheaper rockers as I've found some to have an incorrect 1.5 ratio which throws the rocker tip to valve stem geometry way off. Also when looking at roller rockers it isn't as much of a benefit to have fulcrum bearings because the shaft pumps oil directly into them making them low friction to begin with. Also the material removed to fit bearings weakens the rocker and the bearings can cause a small loss in oil pressure do to the oil being able to flow out of the bearings easier. The benefit to the roller rocker is lower friction = more power and less wear. A main girdle isn't necessary for a street motor that won't see a lot of rpm's. Single planes usually make better upper rpm horsepower and not as good in the lower rpm's, I prefer edelbrocks performer rpm for street use it's the best of both worlds. The 850 would be my pick for the carb. Good Luck

good points from 747mopar.ditch the indy manifold and get a good split plenum, you will not like the low end responce from a single plane that big on the street.(unless you are psyco driver like me and the motor never drops below 3000 rpm's)same thing with the carb, the 850 will keep up the ventury velocity and give better responce at lower rpm's.if you need to buy rockers anyway,go with the rollers.they will free up a bit of hp and the adjustability is a must in a modified motor.and lastly, main girdles are only for high rpm of forced induction race motors.no need on a street motor.

Well,,, if you need or want a working spare Holley 850 DP carb, I'll trade ya for the 1050.......
