www.compcams.com. They have a tech section where you can give them your engine specs and they can suggest a cam that fits your hardware and your driving needs.

I just had a 509 Mopar cam wipe a couple lobes on me. Changing it out for a Comp cam this weekend, in fact.
Engine builder/former owner may have screwed up on break-in, but the cam literally had less than 200 miles on it.
Just my two cents...

I put a used 509 cam in my 451 and it has been working great for 3 years! 915 heads, 13 to 1 C/R. No probs at all. That cam likes steep gears like 3.91 and up, higher stall T/Converter, and compression. There are better cams out there I'm sure, they usually add a little more ex duration and lift, compared to the intake lobe. The 509 has the same duration on ex and intake lobes.

the first thing i would do is, have the heads CCed to get an idea of where your compression is at right now, if your in the 85 to 90 CC range, you may have to machine them down a little if you want to run a larger cam like the 509.

if you want to run something a little less aggressive, then you would not have to machine the heads so much to achieve the proper compression to support said cam choice.

Comp sells a 509 cam that is ground on a 110 LAS VS the Mopar Perf. original which is on a 108. this cam has a little better street manners.

you could try Hughes, they have some good stuff, or my new personal favorite Lunati Voodoo cams.

make sure you get the matching springs, and retainers.

you had to ask? Nobody here builds engines for the same purpose so everyone has their own opinions. I only have one question a good cam guy should be asking, does this have power brakes? Start asking cam grinders for recommendations and when you find someone who can answer all your questions buy it. Stay away from the parts selling crowd, they are there to sell parts, most have never built an engine, some may not even know where the cam goes. Just make sure all parts are compatible.

Welcome aboard and thanks for joining the forum!

I'm currently building a 440 for a 67 GTX
The engine has the Comp Cams 268 Grind
Someone else on the forum is going with the comp 270

I personally would rather run a Crane Cam but this engine already the new Comp and the lifters

Do you want Torque or Horsepower?

I went for Torque

I recommend that you talk to Dave Hughes at Hughes Engines. He's one of the best Mopar cam guys I in the country. Go to Hughesengines.com for more information and a phone number.

I'm in the same shoes as moparedtn:
I picked up a 67 GTX that had an engine re-build in Beaufort S(O Carolina.
Military kid owned the car, not 100 miles on the engine re-build and it seemed to make terrible noises on start up.
So, I, pulled it apart and re-built it.

I'm building for Torque

if your using the Comp Extreme Energy 268, it is an awesome cam, best of everything.

Oh hell, I didn't even notice the posting date. Laughing hard at myself here. :)
