I have a 440 from a truck getting ready to go in my 73 Charger, originally had a 400. Will this drop in or do I need to change oil pans? Yes, Im being a bit lazy and wanting to use what I have. THanks!

Should be a 971 pan for 73 and up BBody... use the pan from the 400 that was in the car as was mentioned.

If you dont have that pan (971) dont bother trying the very simmilar and easier to find 187 pan, IT WONT FIT! Ask me how I know! lol

Thanks kernel, the original motor is LONG gone, I didn't figure it would work but thought Id give it a shot. I'll go buy the right pan.

Are you sure? remember this is the iso K and the sump is pushed back an inch or so at the front of the 971 compaired to the 187 pan and it looses a quart iol capacity (which sux). If the front of the 699 pans sump is in fact further back at the front it may just fit. I know the capacity of the 699 is much higher as the sump is bigger towards the back so then my onlu concern would be, just how close is the steering mech to the pan? If you are sure and have done this or know someone who has I would DEFINATELY be interested as I'd go find one myself for me car.

When you get the oil pan be sure to get the matching pick up tube and dip stick. Truck ones won't work.
Also check your lower radiator hose. Chances are your 73 rad has the lower on the drivers side and the truck water pump housing should be on the pass side. In 74 the cars went to the pass side.
Also will need 73-78 B/C-body BB spool type motor mounts.
Truck exhaust manifolds probably won't work either.
Is your Charger an auto or manual tranny? Cast crank 440 will not be drilled for a pilot bushing. Steel crank may or may not be.

I have a 699 on my 440 ,in my 74 charger outside in the garage right now. fits and works perfect
