I have a 440 block with "9 T 440 E" stamped on the flat part of the front of the block. Underneath is stamped 7-17. I think the "E" and "7-17" means it was assembled 7-17-69. Am I right? What does the "9 T" mean? Thanks.
The 9T means 1979 and in most cases E is a cast crank. On the underside of mine it has the date 10-26-66, October 26 1966 which is correct for my early 67 cornet.
The E behind the 440 like has already been mentioned is for cast crank. the 7-17 will be the assembly date of the engine. The casting date of the block will be down on the side of the engine block.
