440 kick down question

Is the PTK something to think about fitting into 70 and earlier cars?

I am by no means an expert but I would say it depends on what you want and if it can be done. The #'s trans in this car works great when floored. That works for me, I'm just glad it's functioning properly.

if you have a big cam because you do no get stuck "off the cam"
u know
flat spot- dead
and to floor it and it kicks down under WOT all hell breaks loose
I vote fr ptkd as a safetu measure
later valve bodies retrofit (most cases)

I will look into it to convert it to PTK for sure.
Like you said, if you want to do a quick speed up action at lower speeds to overtake a car or so you don't have to go to WOT.
Just a good tap on the throttle to make it downshift to 2nd and off you go.

From what i read my '69 727 valve body can be modified for PTK, or does this require a post-'70 valve body?
Anyway i want to install a shift kit as well when i will do a rebuild on it this winter.

If you're not going to the nth degree looking for originality yes! A better, more driveable tranny. Luckily they can just swap in back to '66. In my case I can't get a cable shift or flange output onto PTK unit so I'm living with my original '64 tranny with another '64 as backup on the garage floor. Even if you don't swap, it's often helpful to change the governor spring and weight to nudge the shift points up some. Not downshifting per se but better than the thing jumping into 3rd by 15 mph and having to floor it or manually shift to get it back down.
