440 temperature sensor

I'm looking for a source for an accurate temperature sensor for my 440. Needs to be 80 to 100 ohms cold, 20ish ohms at operating temp. I bought one at Napa thinking it would perfect, but it's 500 ohms cold and 150 ohms at 180, it won't even make my gauge move.
 
69 GTX....is the sensor different for all 440s??

They're about 340 at room temp. Methinks your gauge or wiring is the issue
 
Standard Ignition does not publish the resistance of the TS17, just lists it as factory replacement.
The TS17 is used in all mopars from 69 to 87

New gauge and wiring
Ground out the sensor wire, and turn on the ign, briefly, the needle should head towards hot. Shut key off.
That will rule out everything except the sensor
 
I have a couple of used ones. Just tested them at room temp. One reads 234 ohms and the other 241 at 75 degrees. There are some numbers on them. One has the number 250 and the other 260. I'm not sure if those numbers are significant or not.
I also have a New unused one that reads 500 ohms like yours does. I wrote NFG on it years ago so pretty sure the two used ones are good while the new one is in fact NFG.
I also have 4 of the older larger senders that all read around 230 ohms at room temp. Hope it helps.

I bought several from my friendly neighborhood auto parts stores....and for the most part none of them were very accurate.
I finally did get one from the local O'Kragens that was close enough to what the temp gun read, but it took a few trips of returning parts and trial-and-error. In other words, a pain in the arse...
A common fix is to put a resistor (size TBD by how far off the sender is) in-line and hide it up under the dash.

I've ordered couple more in hopes of finding one that's close. If I strike out, are you interested in selling an old one?

No problem. I'll give you one. I'm in Eau Claire. I guess I should do a little bench testing to see how accurate they are. I have no idea what the ohmage should be but the common number I find with the ones I have seems to be around 230 ohms at room temp. Take your ohm meter to the parts store and check theirs.

I just put a TS17 from Oreilleys in mine a couple days ago, at operating temp with 180 tstat it is at the low end of the normal range on the gauge.

Yep, that's how mine is, way low
 
Mine reads 182 ohm at 80 degrees. I will check it later after I run it.
 
I wonder how many faulty sensors have lead to radiator replacments ?
