440 with 8 bolt crank 4speed to 727 ? How do I do it

I posted on your other thread. Just take the pilot bearing out of the crank. What is all the gray stuff smeared around the bolt heads? I hope thats not ARP thread lube. If it is take it apart and clean it all off. I use Loctite.
I agree no thread lube on those bolts. Use thread locker instead. And pull out the pilot bushing and the Torque converter will fit

For the 727 torque converter to fit. It does. Won’t fit without that one coming out
It all has to come out. I am not familiar with that particular style. The ones I am used to were just one large bushing with the smaller needle bearing.

So I took out the pilot bearing. But now there’s that. Wondering how to take it off

Take a magnet and make sure its steel. If so stick a tight fitting nut in the hole. Tack weld it to the steel sleeve. Then run a long threaded bolt or rod in and it will push it out. Make sure the ground is clean on the flange. Do not ground it anywhere else.
I’m looking at some online and I think they installed it backwards. That’s why it has that little lip on the outside lip/edge. Having it inside would make it easy to remove because of the grooves on the outside.

Based on that video. But your thoughts that this isn’t part of the crank itself? I can cut it but scared I might be messing up the crankshaft if it’s part of that…

Makes sense being backwards. Cutting it might be difficult. I would try the nut trick.

His pilot bearing is out but now he needs the sleeve out. It appears to be bottomed in the hole so no room for a puller. Probably too big to run a tap into it and bottom it out to push it out - or is it?
