As per a previous post I'm gathering the parts for a 451 stroker engine.

Components have now or on order:
KB280-030 pistons
400 block bored 030 over
440 Steel crank machined for the 400 block
452 Heads with new valves, guides, springs and retainers
Resized/conditioned 440 LY rods with ARP bolts
Hughes cam kit HEH3237BL (cam, lifters and springs)

My question is what rings should I use....engine machinist recommends SPEED PRO part #10426 (which I can't find or maybe wrong part number) or TOTAL SEAL part #8950 which I have found a set 8950-35 which has a listed bore size of 4.390.

I thought I read somewhere that the 030 rings are hard to find for the 400....is that correct?

Looking for direction, opinions or thoughts on the ring issue, where I should go to look or is there another manufacturer that is equal to either of the above. Thanks, Larry

Hello 65sf i too em collecting parts for a 451Build and just bought a used 440 crank that was Turned Down, wondering if you wouldn't mind posting pics so that i could compare both cranks ! Thanks !!

Crank is at the machine shop...will send when I can.

64, not positive but I think 440source has 400 rings in .030,.035,and .040 and so on.

I use Total Seal Gapless p/n S6760 or you can use conventional rings p/n C6760
Available sizes STD +.020 +.030 +.040 +.060

If you don't have your own torque plate and ring filer, I would use the Sealed Power E-318K30 rings, as they are most probably made by the same company that makes the Keith Black rings for $22 more. For my builds I always try to use a file-fit gapless ring (as recommended above) if it is in the budget. But then I have a dial indicator controlled ring filer and torque plates to facilitate the process.
