I'm curious,,I have a 472 stoker biuldt out of a 400 block..Indy heads , comp roller cam and prw roller rockers. engine runs great, I have about 180 miles on motor so far..question I have is ,is it suppose to sound like the rockers are loose? my engine biulder has listened to it and says he don't hear anything wrong with it,,and he biulds alot of race motors. but to me they just sound loose..I pulled a vavle cover off and checked them they all seem fine,,I get a little movement on the ones that are closed on the valve. the moter is balance and when it's running it is smooth not jumping or rocking aroundbut it just sounds like the vavle train is loose. I'm was running brad penn 30 weight, but changed over to 20/50. sounds the same so that didn't make a differance. any comments would be appresative.

I'd guess it's a hydraulic or he wouldn't be complaining about lifter noise. That said, my B engine stroker has lifter noise. I've adjusted them with different techniques with no difference. It's an XE comp cam, I've been told that they're noisy, don't know. I use Brad Penn 10w30. I figure it's junk comp cam lifters. It's been like that for over 5000 miles with no difference. They sound like Rhoads lifters.

I see nothing in his post specifically about lifter noise.

He says it sounds like his rockers are loose, I guess I'm saying the same thing. Sounds like the rockers need adjusted.

it's a hydralic cam,I forgot to put that down the cam grind is xr286hr-10. last night I warmed the motor up just a tad,,and pulled the vavle cover off,,and one number one cylinder,,the intake was closed ,I was able to slide a 10 thousand feeler gage under the tip.did noticed that the other end at the push rod seemed like it went down a little. I will say this is the very first time I have had a professional engine biuldt with a roller cam and roller lifters, so I didn't know if this is normal or not.

I had one set of comp roller hydraulics that was like that. turned out 3 of them had cracks in the lifter under the roller and they were constantly bleeding down. Comp said it was my fault, I must have cracked them. great company. Went wit lunati, problem solved

I put hydraulic rollers in one of my own engines and had nothing but noisy lifters. It's the reason I refuse to build a big block with a hydraulic roller unless I can bush the lifter bores. After some research I found it is critical to have the right lifter to bore clearance with hydraulic rollers.
