What does it that to make a .030 over 440 a 493 stroker. Thought I heard somewhere that all you have to do is drop the pan and install the crank, is the right or wrong? or is it the same as the 500, clearance the block and all that jazz.

No, Not that simple. The closest I could fine was a 0.60 over 383 B-block that gets to a 4.25 bore and using a 6.535 rod and that comes out at 496 ". Go to 440 source and look at some of the stroker kits to get an idea of what you may be looking for. Good luck with your venture.

a 493 is a 440 block bored .030" with a 4.15" crank. Common set up. Use the displacement formula: bore x bore x stroke x # of cylinders x .785

In this case it would be 4.35 x 4.35 x 4.15 x 8 x .785

Yup...what they said. Got to change more than the crank, cause the extra stroke doesn't happen on just the down stroke
