4L60E to a Big Block

Just an update guys.... Everything is buttoned up nice! I had to swap out the input shaft and torque converter to the 300m and LS converter. I still need to use the spacers between the flex plate and converter. I also had to notch out the holes in the flex plate a tad to line it all up. I had to get a spacer for the starter for it to line up right (Quicktime sells it separate). I also cut a hole in the scatter shield to make it easier to access the converter bolts. I just drilled and tapped some holes and cut a small plate to cover the hole. I'll post pictures soon.

There was some clearance issues up top once everything was tightened down. Come to find out after pulling the trans three times, the scatter shield was not fitting flush due to the two oil plugs on the back of the block. So I just drilled two holes to allow it to fit flush. I plan on trying to finish up the plumbing and wiring this winter. Maybe I can fire this big block up in a couple of months.

UPDATE: I have the engine wired up enough to start it. Breakin went well, and all seems good with the tranny. Only problem is it keeps spitting the yoke out of the tailshaft (I do not have the driveshaft built yet). I am building my rearend and brakes now. Hopefully I can test drive the car by the end of summer.

Here's a conversion kit I got my hands on to convert my slapstick to work with the 4L60E! My favorite part is the new lense that comes with it! photo.jpg

Wow I'm noticing a trend with every mopar conversion lately.... how hard would it be to add an installation pamphlet on that in with the kit now they know about it... and no-one informs you of anything until you buy their products to find out..... that edelbrock heads take special plugs and headders (I won't go there) or you have to fabricate the you're fire wall around a brake booster... makes me want to list 2 or 3 of everything for a 66 67 68 mopar on ebag... so they can take the money for that 2
I could have built 2 cars just in dealing with getting parts.... it's only been 45 years since these cars were made...

Trust me sleepar, this swap has not been easy. It wouldn't have been as bad if the bellhousing was labeled correctly. Everything else wasn't too bad. ....

Greg, I work in the same industrial park kiesler was in. Silver sport transmissions bought the assists. I stopped in there to see if they had the shifter gate, and he found one of the kits left over. They might have some more left. He told me they got their stuff from shiftworks.

I used the wilcap adapter on mine that I bought from Greg at phoenix. I had none of the issues you are going through. Everything bolted right up. I had to clearance the block for the starter, but that was about it. Mine was a 4L80 though. They dont make a removable bell hosing case for the 4L80 that I am aware of.....well maybe if you buy the TCI 6x

I actually have a 4L60E Gen III trans and Quicktime bellhousing here we are fitting to a 6.1 Hemi. Looks like we can use the stock flexplate by re-drilling the bolt pattern, using allen head bolts to the converter pad and probably a 1/4 to 3/16 shim between the pad and flexplate for proper clearance. We used a slightly extended converter pilot cut to the 1.810 pilot size of the Mopar engines. The stock 6.1 or 5.7 that use the Nag1 trans have a sleeve in the crank to neck down the pilot size to the Mercedes converter. By removing that sleeve it restores the crank pilot to the typical Mopar size. I'm glad the engineers had the foresight to do things that way, saves a lot of trouble and expense in adapting.

Yeah, the 5.7's and 6.1's have the starter ring on the flexplate I believe. I had to go with a different fexplate to get mine to work.
