505 Stroker kills when put into gear….

So I bought what I was told a de-tuned 505 stroker. New build from Big2 engine in Gulfport(no longer in business so can’t gather any Specs in the build. All new components. Got it in and fired up. Been tuning on it but having issues with the engine killing as soon as I put the car in gear. The Converter is stock and I’m wondering if I need a stall converter. Perhaps 2000-2500 stall.

Thoughts and advice please.

Well, we need a 'whole lot' more info on the tune in order to make a half way decent 'guess' of what the problem might be. Idle speed is one thing but what's your timing, vacuum at adle, carb settings and so on and so on.....a stock converter can sometimes drag it down too much if everything else is not right.....
 
Had the initial set at 28. Wasn’t happy below that. Vacuum at idle was around 12. Currently has a Carter competition AVS with mixture turned out 1 1/2 turns.
 
High initial timing can mean the engine has low compression. What heads are on it and do you know what pistons are in it? Doing a static compression test might help tell ya something. I've had more than one engine with low compression that liked a lot of initial timing. Sure would be nice to know what cam is in it. You might have to plot it out.....knowing what pistons are in it would also be nice. Bore scope can help with that.
 
Did that. Had it at 1200 and same result

What is the idle rpm in your video? Is that in gear or not in gear? Sounds like 600 rpm. Tach on the right setting?

There looks to be a lot of blow by coming out the breather.

900 in the video in neutral. Tach is set correctly.

Flat top pistons and a guess at compression would be 10.5 or 11.1 Guys at shop are gonna see if they can get the lift and duration figured out. It was a new/never run build when I got it. Roller hydraulic lifters and crane 1.5 roller rockers. Heavy double valve springs. Rings have to seat so I assume to crankcase gasses you see venting will subside.

Agreed. There should be air going in, not being pushed out. Is the pcv valve functioning correctly?
 
Are you pulling vacuum at the end of the pcv hose before the valve?
 
Is there a pipe plug installed on the back of the carb?
 
It's easy to do a compression check on each cylinder.....if you get low numbers on the first few, then the rest are probably low too. Doing a compression check on an individual cylinder is basic stuff but if you don't know how to do that, then you are at the mercy of whoever does it for you.
