.590 MP Cam Opinions

For me the ticket to get my Cuda from 10.7-10.8's to 10.2's was cubes and better heads. The 10.7-80 combo was nothing special. The only high dollar part at the time was the 452 heads. These were sold by McCandles back in the late 80's and werent cheap at the time. 590 cam, harland sharp 1.6 rockers that were 15 plus yrs old, weiand intake 750 holley, 6pk rods & heavy TRW domes slugs. I refer to this as my junk yard motor but ran it hard for 14yrs until it finally gave up the ghost.

Went stroker (500ci standard eagle pkg)Indy SR's w/min clean up(valve job and bowl, standard port) , Hughes STL7276BS cam Indy Intake and 950 Holley. Car was very consistent and never turned more than 6300(shift point and thru the traps) w/4.30 gears and PTC converter. Could have shifted higher and ran a little faster but why for maybe .05-.1. Only downside to my combo was the Hughes cam beat the crap out of the springs(their springs).

My car was lighter at 3500 w/me. The point to this is that with the right combo no need to rev the engine to the moon. Similar combo at 3700 would run 10.5's all day with ease. Love your car & very fond of 67's thats what I'm running now. Good luck you will get there.

I think i have made my choice i am going to have Bullet Cams cut me a Special Grind for my Stroker and yes i am going to you a Solid lift Cam and i know some out here will say WHAT why a cam that size or so on when there are so many other better cams but i like a Large Duration & Lift and a good size lift at .050 so i have settled on a 324/630 & 270 @ .050

270 @ .050 is not that big in a stroker.

this 499 i built has a bullet solid roller [email protected] .650 lift on 110 LS. It's been 10.09 @ 136 with a poor 60ft. should have some high 9's in it and it drives around on the street no problems.

67coronetman ,
I have my 505 underway now . It will have a flat tappet solid cam . I am looking at the Howard's cams , I like the look of their 2 mid 270's @ 050 cams both with mid 600 lift . 1 is a single pattern , 1 dual pattern . My Plymouth is a daily driver plus bracket racer

I agree completely. I ran a Racer Brown Stx 23 in my 496 which is [email protected] and .629 with 1.6 rockers and it was quite mellow to drive. Those cubes suck up a big cam very well. That combo was good for high 10's in a 4200 package. It could have gone quicker than that if I wanted to spin it higher but I try to stay under 6500.

67coronetman,
No i have not decided , though i am leaning toward the dual pattern . I feel i need to get 620/640 after lash to take most advantage of my stealth cnc heads .
I have only used single pattern cams up till this time in my 440 .

Ok sweet let me ask a question i like both Patterns but i have heard some say a dual pattern makes more power... I Prefer the Single Pattern what say you guys.

Single pattern or dual pattern seems to me dependent on the intake port / exhaust port flow ratio. A split pattern cam helps adjust that ratio. Big block Mopars with stock type heads generally have a less efficient exhaust port. More lift and/or duration on the exhaust side helps make up for that. Just my thoughts.

I went with a custom grind flat tappet from Dwayne Porter and he speced a dual pattern for mine that is 264 & 270 @ .050 with .585 & .592 lift on a 110 LSA. I am very happy with it for my car. Ron

X's 3. The idea of the dual pattern cam is to help the weaker exhaust port. It will also extend the rpm range of the cam a little bit. If the exhaust port is "super efficient" than you may very well loose power.
