I'm sure most of you have already figured this out, I was having problems with the choke staying on way too long, it would foul plugs and just about gas anyone near the car. there doesn't seem to be any options for the six pack as far as manual or electric choke. I removed the choke rod and fired it up. I came to the conclusion that I really don't need a choke here in calif. so after a little experimentation I ended up making a new choke rod only 3/8" shorter. I made it out of welding rod I had laying around the house. I made the groove for the circlip with a tubing cutter.

now it fires up without blubbering and having to hold the throttle , it still uses the fast idle cam .

another issue I was having was run on. not all the time It depended on the quality of gas I was running. I bought a Holley universal idle solenoid and made a bracket.

I can't believe the difference .

as far as the choke goes, sounds like the choke pull-off wasn't properly adjusted.

There is a choke pull off adjustment. It's the U shaped rod attached to the small diaphragm on the right side of the carb. As far as run on is concerned that is what six packs do unless you have the idle solenoid working. There is just too much air available to the engine with that pile of carbs sittin there so unless you slam the primary carb shut it will run on. The fact that these came from the factory with an idle cut off solenoid pretty much says it's an issue.

If you have your exhaust heat cross over blocked then the choke will not work properly, but opening up the heat cross over will cause hot driving issues because of the crappy gas so you can't win. The best solution is to add an electric heater to the bi metal spring that operates the choke, or just find one of the late model cars that has that choke setup and try to make it work on the six pack intake. Oh, and clever solution using a universal solenoid and cutting a C clip groove with a pipe cutter.

i've been using 6-paks since 1970 and haven't had any run on issues. basically, the run on thing was a by-product of all the emissions stuff built into the carbs and ignition. once that problem is solved there isn't any need for the idle solenoid. if your getting too much air passing around the secondaries throttle blades then the linkage that connects the end carbs isn't adjusted correctly. a cold intake will delay the choke kicking off.
