62 belvedere motor change out

this is my first build ,the question is can I put a 440 in my 1962 belvedere ,and whats a good trans ,and rear end for the motor looking to build a little sleeper street racer.

If your 62 originally had a big block in it, yeah, it will slip right in. (Does in my 64) It means you have the right K-member in the car. If it had a small block, gotta change the K-frame.

I've also changed my rear axle to a later 8 3/4. Those 62-64 tapered axle rears don't hold up that good to HP.

Also changed years on my 727...that involves relocating the tranny mount, around a 1/2" back.

What engine and trans is in the car now?

A 62 only needs a k frame change if it's a six cylinder. Schumaker may have a kit to get around that. To go from a small block to big block, motor mounts need to change. Torsion bars should be swapped if upgrading from a six. A big block pushbutton will drop in place of the smallblock one. A 65-70 8-3/4 is a common swap for early B-bodies - widths varied and can affect tire clearance.

Schumacher has the brackets and insulators for the engine and the transmission mount . They have a special one for using a later 727 as well if that's the route you choose.

The nutted rear axle isn't necessarily weak but people swap them out for later B body housings for ease of service on the brakes. The drums can be hard to get off!
