So I am switching projects, my current one is just not going to work. I have started looking for a roller car to put my big block in.

Here is what I found.

Repainted 62 Dart 2-door. Rust free, gloss black. A little bit of wear from being moved around etc. but not driven since the repaint. It has a roll bar that is shoddy. No interior to speak of other than some crusty door panels etc. I really don't think there is any rust, I am pretty good at looking for that. Basic roller, drum brakes nothing fancy.

Great glass, has the wiper assembly and some wiring. It is pretty straight and needs bumpers. Bezels and lenses need some TLC but overall the major stuff is present and the car looks good. No door locks or trunk locks. I am sure there is minor stuff missing which will be a pain to get ahold of.

He is asking $5000. I'm so used to over-priced Mopars that I didn't think about that much. But upon a little reflection I wonder if that is really that great of a deal. I have seen a few cammed up drivers that are a little rough for $7000 for instance.

The car checks a lot of my boxes. Perfect for a car to put my extra parts in and get going.

No pictures, but is $5000 a fair deal do you think?

the pool of buyers is extremely limited.....offer him 3K and settle on 3.5 if you really want it...... you'll be under water the minute you drag it home, even if you score it for nothing

No pix....so really leaves it to the imagination, right???

But either way, you've got to ask yourself, if there is indeed no rust, could you really get it much cheaper??? I think not.

***EDIT*** Is this the same car you were asking about last month??? You were looking for body panels then....could change some answers lol!!

Rust free, two door, and fresh black paint? Oh yeah, good deal! The fresh paint job could cost two thirds of that, so your paying 1500 for the car.
(Of course, I'm prejudiced. I own a 62 savoy. You have to like 62's looks, but they will grow on you. Like a fungus.)

It isn't about making money, but I don't want to lose my shirt either. I would be putting some pretty good parts in it however.

Same car. I have been in touch with the guy here and there. He couldn't find the VIN. I found it for him and now I am reconsidering. After looking at it again the other day, he says it has bumpers but they are buried in snow etc. The car, if it has any rust, is somewhere hidden. I can't get it on a lift, but I can look underneath and see everything from on top.

It does have the tunnel cut for a 4-speed and there is a minor mod to the trunk floor for a cell. Those are the main mods I can see.

They kinda have. I think I prefer the savoy, but these aren't bad at all. It has definitely grown on me.

I am aware that discussing this before buying it is risky. I literally had one car bought out from under me at the sister site here about 10 years ago. We were discussing things and I went home to gather some stuff up etc. I made mention of that on the site.

It shows up that evening for sale. Flipper couldn't even bother to take it off the trailer or get home. He took the pics at the local car wash LOL.

This place seems honest enough and I am older and less uptight about this stuff.

He and I are " in talks" about the car and some extras. Waiting to hear back actually.

It isn't about making money, .

it never is, but you are probably the only interested party within 500-1000 miles.....others have shipping to deal with which kills the deal..... agree on a price and drag her home....... asking 5k means he's looking for 4K

I would offer $4k, if it was near me, and I wanted it.
(I have a strong aversion to black cars, unless they belong to somebody else.)

I can see that. I have a two mile long dirt driveway.

The seller says be has some extra performance parts. I think I am going to hold out for him to gather information and try and get all of the parts with it if I can. We will see....I have other cars.

I appreciate the insight here. I am not new to cars at all. Nor rebuilding them or even body and paint. But this is such a niche car that I feel like I need some information.

One of the issues is that on the west coast it is a real desert of decent project cars. B bodies in general are a tough find. Lots of over priced A bodies that are rotten.

Maybe I am getting a little excited about this...

If it is a two door sedan I buy in a minute.
Particularly being on the east coast. Out here, finding a car that has minor rot is pretty easy. Usually by this age they may need a floor patch or lower quarter but that is about it.

$5k for a rust free '62 Dart with all the major parts and already painted?
That's a no brainer in my book.

AMD discontinued the floor panels and the trunk floor, and the rear floor was never made.
The four speed hump can be bought from Sherman, nice piece.
I bought an American Autowire harness for $299 for my '62, well worth it.

Is it a hardtop or post, Dart, 330, or 440?
Some say the higher the trim model the more $, others want nothing but low trim post cars to make more Max Wedge clones.
Any way you slice it, I'd buy it, if I didn't already have one.

Good to know. Thank for your thoughts. Not a post car. I like the post cars. Does not have much trim at all. I think it looks better that way myself.

This ones older than me.... (as they all are lol), so I guess I always liked this one.

Got that movie in my dvr. A classic, and loaded with 62 mopars!
(Had three black, or mostly black, cars at one time. By the time I got finished washing the third one, the first one was dirty again.)
Edit:there's a scene early on of cops following an ambulance in a 62 Savoy (4 dr, they all are) and then pans to the interior cops, and they show a 61 dash. Just find that amusing. The dash goes from a 62 to a 61 to a 62 in Lefty's clip too.
