62' Polara 8 3/4 tapered axle problems

Manu, "RED" here, we have emailed before. Key issue here, and I am not clear it has been discussed, is that using a Suregrip gear set requires the SHORTER axles in an Early taper axle rear end, ( 1/4" each). The non- suregrip axles are longer, and the they had the block spacer in the carrier. No amount of shimming or adjustment will help you. You are adding the later diff in the early housing , and yes you need the button head spacer, but need the SG shorter axles.
Good luck

Red is correct. If your rear had the open differential, those axels will be longer.

Has anyone used the "green" bearings on the "tapered" axel and left out the thrust block?

OK thanks, I will check this. First I have to reinstall the spacer kit, for this I must remove all the stuff. I suppose I do have the short axle shafts because I have too much end play with the shims. I will check it by reinstalling everything with the spacer kit and let you know.

Any updates?

I sure would like to know if anyone has tried the "green" bearings on a tapered axle and just leave the blocks/pins out of the diff. I really like the narrower housing on the '62.
