Any way to safely remove them so I can reuse them again? Want to paint the car but worried if I take them off I either will break them or not be able to put them back in with whatever retainer is holding them now. I do have panel popping tools and think I can just get under them and pop them off. Anyone know of a safe way or trick to get them off to be able to reuse them?

Thanks
Todd

You should be able to pry them of,should be on same as wagon.

Just put mine on, speed nuts on about half of the prongs, you can access them from under the trunk lid.

Sounds like yours may be held on with those barrel clips, like I've seen used on the "Plymouth" door script. I've messed with better than a half dozen 62's and have not run into that on the trunk lid letters. Who knows what may have happened over the years or perhaps different plants used different attaching mechanisms.

All mine have had the stamped speed nuts. I spray them with WD40, give it a little time to work and then go easy on unscrewing them.

I've had zero luck with prying studs out of those barrel clips. The only way I've been able to remove them is with the same pre-spray/soak and then lightly tap on the pointed end of the stud to gradually work them out of the clips. 55-7 Chevy's used these on the body side scripts and I lost count of how many I broke trying to pry them off.

Thanks guys for the info. DERV and peabodyracin you guys were correct. There was a tape covering the slots on the trunk lid. Once I pulled it back there was slots and the nuts were exposed for me to get to. Was so worried about breaking them because figured not like you would go down to local auto parts store and get replacements.

Thanks again guys for the help
