would the throttle linkage being out of adjustment cause the tranny to slip in drive, rev is good...would there be any adjustments, like kick down, shift cable. ect that could be out, that would make it slip in drive first and sec, act all the same... trying to cover all bases befor i take it out and start 727 tranny 101.....

no... throttle pressure would cause either drive to be engage too soon (i.e. quickshifts) or would cause for it to not want to shift into drive due to too much pressure. If your car is slipping when it engages into drive and it engages into drive at or around 25-30 mph, then it is your clutch discs that are slipping due to either blowby on the intermediate drum piston seal or your discs are worn. (<--- most cases this is the scenario)

is your trans fluid fading to orange color and have you dropped the pan yet?

fluid is new as well as the filter...its a new to me tranny not sure of the history...i swaped out the bad vb with one from a six cyl both pushbutton..rev is good but just doesnt want to go to drive like it does in rev...its the same in first and sec as well....

are you saying it does not want to go into first, second or drive or just drive? nvm, relooked your first post.

Is it a sudden flareup or is it slipping in the gear(s)?

its sliping in 1 2 and drive its out now going to try and rebuild it my self...should be a ride iam going on

well i dove right into the rebuild... clutched were worn down to metal o rings busted ect will put all new in tomorrow,,,

you have questions let me know, i have overhauled many of them.
came across something today i was told that i needed a wavy spring clip and a plastic washer and a new plate, all the new books show theses items in order, but when i took it apart it onl had a thick spring clip, and the 62 and up book i have shows it with just the thick clip.the way mine was when i took it apart.... whats the wavy clip and the washer do...

in the intermediate drum, you will find that the wavy clip and the "washer" (which can be steel or a brittle plastic type piece) separates the belleville spring from the lower clutch plate (see picture attached). The purpose of the wavy clip and washer is to retain the belleville spring at the appropriate position above the piston so that the lower clutch plate may rest on it, and when the drum's piston is under pressure and expands, it pushes on the belleville spring (which is being held in place by the washer and wavy spring) and the spring is compressed thus causing equal pressure to be applied to the lower clutch plate, thus causing the clutch discs to engage (creating friction)... going into gear :D

i see but my book pic doesnt show that wavy clip or the washer, there is no way that wavy clip will go on with that washer.... i got a new washer, and wavy clip....what if it goes back togeather like it was....but with the wavy clip and no washer, insted of just the thick clip like before...

I will be honest i have rebuilt many 727s but never a pushbutton 727. What u have and what the OE equipment has could rightfully betwo different things. I would ask PBNJ 727 guys about this.

well it goes in drive and rev but doesnt shift, i didnt go through the tail shaft sec, could it be the gov sticking or weights.....any ideas...

did you make sure your pressure was adjusted correctly on your VB?
didnt think to ck, the valve body iam using is out of a six cly 904 pushbutton are the pressure different....

ck pressures in the book both the 6 and 8 cyl pushbutton vb run at same pressure....went to mess with the throttle linkage now i have now rev, didnt even get to adj throttle linkage..iam lost now:icon_confused:

adjusted the kickdown band 72 in pounds backed off 2 turns and the other 72 in pounds backed off 3 turns per book specs...what it that wavy clip didnt hold what would happen

any ideas would be helpfull trying to get done for a big show here in indy on thur thrugh the weekend....

if it didnt hold then the intermediate clutch would not engage the clutch discs to put it in gear.. instead they would ultimately burn up due to excessive slippage.

did you tear apart your valve body and clean it thoroughly?

what are the pressures at the front and rear servo and accumulator piston ports? is your pushbutton putting the selector lever into each gear properly?

re checked the selector its right the throttle valve is right...have the pan off going to ck the vb then i will use air to work the servos to see if the lo/rev band and kick down are working....then on to the gov in the tail saft...wht happen to rev...it worked whn pulled into the garage, the bands look ok and adjusted. or does it need to come out and gone through again... this weekend is the last chance to get it ready.....btw thank you racedodge for your help
