Hi guys cant remember the interchangeability of 63 to other b bodies for a kit to put new ball joints and such on my car. Alot of the kits I see say 65-67 b body. I always thought 63 64 65 suspension was the exact same. What's some good kits out there for my 63 330?? 63-65 for life!! Thanks everyone!

I know PST has a kit, and make sure to put in for the DISCOUNT, since you're a FBBO member...

Most stuff is the same from 62 to 72. Tie rod ends vary but might interchange and the idler arm is different starting in '67.

Thank You BB63 ! I needed a kick to my backside to get mine ordered too. I just looked them over, and probably going with the OP Super front end kit. Looks like everything is in it, but I'm going to check with them to verify it has grease fittings on all parts possible, and OK the 10% discount. My car is hitting the paint booth as we speak, so next year will be something special, I hope...

I went to order a COMPLETE kit years ago from PST. They only included outer tie rod ends and not inner. Asked them who changes one and not the other?! (It was a ploy at the time to have a lower price in their ad's than everyone else is my guess.) Hung up and called Just Suspension. Great kit! My '63 runs and drives great with their stuff.

A question re this topic.... When ordering new suspension parts for your car like the OP intends to do, do you base your parts order on what the car was originally [engine-wise] or what you're making it now? I.E. my 64 Polara was a factory 318 car and I'll be putting a 440 in it. Seems like I should be ordering my parts based on the new 440 motor going in but thought I'd ask...

Thanks!

I believe the steering components should all be the same. You will probably want to replace the torsion bars, to carry the extra weight though. I believe the MP .092" are the stock size for BB's, and the .096" are the heavy duty for improved handling. I'm using the .096 in my '63 with the Max Wedge, as there is so much extra weight with all the cast components, heads, exhaust & intake manifolds. In my '65 I am running the .092", as the engine has aluminum heads, intake, and headers, and I also plan on dragging the car a bit, so I wanted it a bit softer up front...

Thanks for your reply, VANDAN, and for the advice re the beefier torsion bars. I had gotten that same advice from others so I do appreciate hearing the consistency from someone who's ahead of me with their project.

For the other front end components, I might just visit a site like Rock Auto and make a list of the part numbers under the 318 engine category and then do the same thing under their 426 engine category just to see if the part numbers are the same. :)

Thanks again!

SP Steve, Can you post the results of your findings, as I am just assuming they are the same. Both of my cars were /6's, with mileage on them, so rebuilds are in order. I've added the reinforcing plates to the lower control arms, and re-welded all the tacky welds on the V-8 K-members to try and stay a step ahead of future troubles. I also plan on adding the Schumacher torque straps, to prevent any unwanted twist. As long as it's taking to get these together, I don't want to be repairing them, just driving them when they're done...

Hi VANDAN. It appears that your assumption is correct that the front end parts are the same regardless of engine size (minus the torsion bars that we already discussed). I took a look at the Rock Auto parts page for '64 Polara front end parts for both the 318 and 426 engines.

I compared the replacement parts for the Pitman Arm, Tie Rods, and Idler Arm and the part numbers were the same exact parts for both engine sizes. In some cases there may have been more choices/suppliers available for the 318 engine size, but that was the only difference between the 2 lists that I found.

Price-wise, Rock Auto is charging the same amount for these parts whether they are for the 426 or the 318, so no price gouging for the BB cars.... :)

Who are these people? I need suspension parts for a 1963 B body, too.
Check out the Vender Section here on the Forum. Contact Them, and mention you are a member here, and get a 10% Discount. Another perk, for joining FBBO !

I agree, PST are jacktards (I just made that up), and they sell junk. I've had their tierod ends and ball joints fail within a years time. Pick up the phone and call Just Suspension. They have much better quality and they will get you set up with what you need.

Or just look up the Moog parts, and order those from your cheapest source. Like everything else in life, you get what you pay for...

If you are replacing the balljoints you need a special socket for the upper joints. There are a couple different sizes if I remember right. I borrowed one from a friend. Be careful not to strip the threads in the control arm. Clean the threads. I bought some parts from Rock Auto.
