63 Sport Fury Fender Tag Info

Lynch Road. Maybe they didn’t match because the fender tag didn’t match the car?

It's interesting how things were done between the plants and actually what years they started stamping numbers on the rad support ect.

My '62 is a Hamtramck and it has weird numbers and letters on the radiator support. Doesn't coincide with any numbers on the tag or anything else. Maybe a part number. I can guarantee this car is all original.

I've owned two '64s in the past and do remember more numbers being available than the '62. I never checked the tag to radiator support numbers on the '64s but it seems like I could cross some engine and trans numbers as being original to them. Not like the newer vehicles with actual vin numbers stamped on the engine ect.

On my ‘64 Fury the SO# on the fender tag matches the number on the rad support.

This is the correct body number to rad support body number correlation. My 62 Belvedere reads correctly like this. The body number is also stamped on the drivers side trunk sill under the trunk seal also. Unless rad support or rear trunk sill were replaced at some time they should all agree with the fender tag regardless of plant car was built at. The 410 that starts your body number = 4 for 1964 and 10 is for Lynch Road production.

To clarify, not correcting anyone, the second digit on the radiator support is the plant.
The zero in the example above is the first digit of the Shipping Order Number.
On my 62, the 1 stamped into the radiator support looks more like a combination of a capital T and a capital I, the 6 could easily pass for a lowercase b, and the 9 the reverse.
With multiple 'numbers' of each of the above, it looked like an alpha-numeric code.

Well I had to go out and look one more time.

This is the number I found on the rad support.

Fender tag...

2= 1962, 2= Dodge/Hamtramck built, 1124= Nov24, 1961 prod date, 0166= 166th vehicle built that day at that plant.

Yeah, ain't that something! Lol That number has been there all this time and I missed it somehow. I know I couldn't wait to get out of that engine compartment when I was sanding and painting it.
It's acually upside down in between the radiator tank and support, so it's not in plain site.

Learn something new everyday

Looks like 2 2 i i 2 4 oh i b b, I can't find that 'number' anywhere. Why do they capitalize only the i?

It's 2 2 1 1 2 4 0 1 6 6

The number is located here between the radiator tank and support. Acually upside down. (red arrow)

I think that matthon was referring to his earlier comment that "the 1 stamped into the radiator support looks more like a combination of a capital T and a capital I, the 6 could easily pass for a lowercase b" and just being a clown.

You will find this body build number on the right or left top of the rad support. The 1s will be stamped as a I for better clarity. This body number is also under the trunk seal on the drivers side about half way down as I stated prior. You have to pull the glued down seal partly to find it. I have also seen it stamped on the drivers side rear steel package tray shelf edge but sometimes the rear window glass has to be removed to see it. These numbers should agree with your fender tag and your fender tag should agree with your VIN plate.
Some thing else to be aware of is some numbers in any of these stampings may be sharper or duller when stamped. That is because as the individual numbers in the dies got worn out they would stamp lighter and when a new number die was installed in the stamper it would stamp sharper for a while. All number dies were not replaced at the same time, only as they individually wore out.
