I'm going to look at a 64 Belvey 2dr, hardtop tomorrow. It's a 318 (assuming a poly-head),pushbutton auto. The ad sez the numbers match. I talked to the owner and he told me theres some rust at the back window and on the firewall. He's asking 1500 for it and I'm wondering what amount of body rot would you consider acceptable at that price. I'm not a dealer, I just want to know what you guys think before I go looking at this car. I hope like HELL its as nice as it looks in the pictures, but I kinda doubt it. Its a running, driving car, and may very well find it's way onto the for-sale board here. Mamma sez somethin's gotta go. Anything? Thanks, Jonny Y.

The price tag sounds pretty good, if it has firewall rust you should take a good torch with you and have a real good look under the dash.....from the firewall right back to the windshield area, including the wiper pivot areas.

I agree, with redpolara, the firewall / cowling I'm sure has some rot. The rear window allways rots in the bottom corners under the window trim.

If you can do body work then it's a good buy.

If it's a running, driving car it should be worth the asking price!Rust can be repaired depending on how bad you want the car.

It's hard to say without seeing pictures. But overall, a 2 door 64 that looks nice for $1500 sounds pretty good.

Also, 'numbers matching' really doesn't mean much with a 64. It may be the original engine but the VIN stamping process wasn't in place back then. Having the right size block with a resonable date stamp is about all you could hope for.

$1500 sounded kinda low to me. Am I overestimating the desirability of this car?

I like 'em! :) Sounds like a decent deal. Not a lot of money for a driver - even if you end up with surprises.

Sounds like a good deal to me, I paid $1000 for my 63 not running and floors are gone, like Freddy Flintstone gone, i say go for it.

If its what you want and complete/not rusted out get it!Price is good.Check firewall as everyone has said, that will be a big deal if your paying someone to do it.Hell its project doing it yourself.I love 62-65 B's anyway.Complete cars get me too,no junkyard crawls and usually not screwed up by previous owners, good luck!Oh yeah car **** is required when asking highly opinionated tech questions!LOL!

Did you get it?Huh?Where's the car ****?Geez Wally!?

Good odds on needing floors, almost all of em need replacing around here. Does sound like a good deal tho, even if it lacks a tailgate ;)

Oops, sorry about the lag. I went to see the 64 and it was better than I expected. Some floor rust and a bit around the windows. Unfortunately (for me, GREAT for the seller), I got into a 3-way bidding war with some dudes with much deeper pockets than me. I was already going to have to shuffle some bills around to come up with 1500 cash, something I'm loathe to do. I bowed-out at 2500. Don't know who took it home, but the ad is gone and the car isn't in my garage. I have a feeling I might regret letting that one go. Bummer. I wish I'd at least taken some pictures. That way I could torture myself with 'em until the next deal comes along, then repeat as needed.

I figure it that way too. However, I have a rule that forbids me from financing toys, and thats pretty much what this would've been. Cool as ****, yes. Necessary, no. I would have had to either flip it or sell something else, and I just don't have the free time for wheeling 'n dealing. I think the car was worth twice the asking price, and I wasn't happy to see it go to some other a-hole (a different a-hole, besides me) but thats the way things go. There will be another one eventually and I'll be ready to nab it. Getting old has at least taught me that much.
