Hi guys, I am having an issue with my engine missing around 5k rpm. I removed the petronix distributor and installed an MSD 6AL box with a new msd distributor, and it still misses with a hard launch. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Is the tach on the same wire as the msd ign feed? Try moving that first.

Thanks Frank. The MSD feed is on the ignition switch. I talked to a mechanic this afternoon and he thinks it is running out of advance timing. Said to give it 2 or 4 degrees advance. The engine is fresh and it is not stock. Full advance is set at 30. sounds like a lot but will try it. I trust him. He is an mechanic from way back. peace Frank, and stay safe.
Bob

PS< I love your ride !!

How are your valve springs? Fresh or old? Correct for the cam? Could be getting valve train instability/float.

Just a thought if your ignition mods don’t fix it.

Thanks grabber. everything is new rebuild. cam is a hyd, flat tappet. Using a edelbrock hp fuel pump putting out 6.5 to 7 psi with a quick fuel 850 carb. Should be ok but will keep in mind.

Double check the ground wire? If any grounds are loose or getting warm tighten and or replace.

30° total or 30° initial?

My issue was similar. Drove me crazy. Finally tried a few thousandths more plug gap and it worked wonders. Had already changed wires and plugs. Dave

Tks. Dave for the input. Never heard of that. Will put on to do list.
How much total advance are you set at ?

Thanks Mike for the info. I feel better about going that high. Will be trying soon.

Depends on your parts combo, fuel my 493 wants 32 degrees.
