Have original 14" stock wheels and hubcaps with 195xR75x14 tires on my 64 Fury 2dr Htd with 383, PS, PB, AT and would like to go with some larger tires for handling as well as better looks. Leaning stongly towards 15" wheels but haven't ruled out 16" or even 17" Cragers or possible some brand of gray spoke ET type mags.

I'm just not sure how large I can install without creating a rubbing problem in the back or problems in the front I haven't thought of. I like the substantial look that larger wheels and tires give and I'm sure it will give a better ride and cornering. Any commments or ideas would be appreciate as I'd hate to buy some wheels/tires that don't fit.

I run 245/60/15 in the front, 275/60/15 in the rear on my 64 Polara 500. Check out my thread to get an idea.

Thanks 5.7 Hemi I'll do it. Not sure how similar in size our rear wheel wells are but I will check it out.

Butch

I am not sure if this is the size you like but I run 30 x 9's on the rear and 225/75-15's up front on my 63. Ron

They should be the same size.

By same size I assume you mean run all one size wheel front and back not same size tire? Since mine is going to be street only I agree. I'm leaning towards 15x7 up front and 15x8 in back if I can stuff that wide of wheel/tire under the back end.

I do like the look of your car though 383man, but that wheel well is stuffed full of tire. Ever have any problems with tire rub on corners?

Butch

No I have never had a tire rub. Ron

My 64 Sport Fury has 275/60-15 on rear on Magnum wheels. If you use a stock steel wheel, (4 1/4" backspace) it shouldn't rub.

As long as I stick with 4 1/2" backspace shouldn't I be able to use a mag type wheel such as Crager or TTD spoked mags? I don't want to run steel wheels as I'm going for the 60's retro look.

Thanks,

Butch

That should be just fine.

Tub it !!! Yipee

I solved the prob by going all the way ! Mini Tubs and custom bent quarters that go out 1/4" farther than stock !! Mario

Now that is just sick, friggin' awesome!

Those big wheels

Thanks for the good words. It was a ton of work and dollars to get the back of the car to look like that. Mini tubs done right are the way to go in my opinion. Car is getting ready to go to my teachers chassis/engine guy for an inspection and then some more work ! Here is a pic of my guys ride !
