from the top it reads 1234567890 with an 8 under the 7, a 1 under the 8, a 2 under the 0. on the top right there is a p with a stamped 28 after it. the next line is the alphabet with 5 under a, 5 under c, 1 under h, 5 under L, p under p, 3 under s, 2 under w. the next line reads SO NUMBER with 1021 1421 under it, BDY with 622 under it, TRM with m1r under it, and pnt with ww1 under it. any help is greatly appreciated.

It took me a few tries to get a clear picture, but I finally got one.

The car was built at St. Louis plant (VIN=6247******) so the White book doesn't offer much help as to how the codes are laid out. I'm making some guesses based on common codes and layouts at other plants.

Bottom to top, left to right:
1021 = First part of Sales Order Number. Scheduled Production Date of October (10) 21st (21) 1963
1421 = remainder of Sales Order Number

622= Dodge 440 V8 model; two door hard top

M1R = interior trim = Medium trim level;bench seat, Cloth and Vinyl, Red
WW1 = exterior paint color = White

A/5 or C/5 could be the engine or transmission. One of them probably means automatic transmission. The other could mean it came with a 383-2bbl. Do you know what engine originally came in the car?

If the car has A/C that could be the H/1 code. If it does not have A/C then S/3 could be the code for heater only.

What radio came in the car? That could be the H/1 code if it is AM only.

That's about the best I can do....sorry.

thanks for the help, I've tried decoding it on the internet with not much luck. It is an auto trans. I do not know what engine came in the car, that is the main thing I was trying to figure out. It has a 4bbl intake and big block water pump housing in the trunk. I think it was a non a/c car looking at the picture of the firewall. I don't have a clue about the radio either. One site I looked at said it could be a 361 4bbl car and one said 383 with no carb size mentioned. One site said the c-5 meant polara 500 sport package but somebody told me it was not a 500 so I dont know.

64 Dodge

This car is a 361 with an automatic. 5 is a 361 under "A" and the "5" under C is the auto code. "3" is a 4speed manual.

From what I have seen a 4 is a 318. I have mainly looked at 64 Plymouths getting an idea of what the numbers stood for. Dodge may be different , but I think this would be very confusing in the build. I looked at 64 Dodges and they seemed to have the same callouts as Plymouth did. I have a 65 Belvedere that came with a 318 and it has a 40 under the A and B and a 5 under the C.

I believe so. The earlier years were weird but 318 4x 361 5x 383 6x 413 ? 426H 73 426W 440 8x ... kind of a vague outline from 62-68
