'64 wagon question?

This is the key for a 64 Fury parts car. I think it is the original key.

Here is a couple of pictures of the original keys from my 64 Belvedere Wagon.

Here is a photo of one my ignition keys. I was going to take a photo of the other one last night but I forgot when I got home. I have always assumed it was original, but I notice It does look like the trim around the star isn't as close to the edge as what I'm seeing on some of the other keys shared. I'll have to look at the others when I get home.

I have tons of spares. My Grandpa made spares back in the old days, my Dad made spares when he owned it and of course once I started driving it I made spares. I think I literally have a couple dozen keys for my car.

Interesting, I've seen those for 62 and 63. I wonder if there was some spillover into 64? Or the owner could have had a new key cut or replaced a lock at some point.

I had this same style on another '64, which is causing some of my confusion. But I think this type is actually 1968-up. The ones for my old '64 must have been replacement keys, not originals.

Thanks Fish, that's super helpful! I think the round key on the wagons is short because it only operates the glovebox. Different than sedans where the round key is full length and works both the trunk and glovebox.

Star key ignition, doors, and tailgate electric window. This is for a 64 fury station wagon. Round key is glove box. The spare tire optional lock might use the round key also. I have not run across one of those.

Hi Retractable is your glovebox key shorter like the one Rarefish posted?

These are my keys for my 64 fury wagon. You can see the round key has a lot of unused length. I think the round key is original but don't know for sure. I can't figure out why the hex key works in the ignition and back window but not my doors. Why someone would replace only the door locks??

I know the subject is 64 Keys, but someone mentioned 68 keys.... 68 keys are different from 69 keys... I learned about original 68 keys years ago & since I'm restoring a 68 I'd tracked down NOS 68 only key blanks.... But when disassembling my car I noticed something was taped to one of the original horns... I honestly didn't think much about it & threw the horns in a box.... Yers later when cleaning parts getting ready to assemble things I re-discovered the tape.... Removed it & found a set of keys which are 100% correct originals that I suspect the original owner may have taped on the horn when the car was practically new.... So these are correct 68 keys...

Wow that's pretty awesome. I'm completely lost on the '64 keys now lol..

My recollection (dad had a 64 300J) is these keys are correct for a 64....

Retractable's parts car key is a 68, probably cut by a dealership in 68-69... The 63 key has a logo like the left key shown by Ron H... Ron H's right hand key is also a 68....

The early trunk/glovebox key has the loop standing above the circle, by 68 it was within the circle...

Thanks Wild R/T and Ortho, I think everything points to Rarefish's keys being correct for a '64 wagon (including the short glovebox key). I just ordered up some blanks, I'll post a pic when they get here.

I think the door locks (esp driver's door) take the most abuse and can get sloppy. I'd guess they needed to change the driver's side, and only changed the pass one to match it.

I am tempted to just take all the pins out and not rekey them.

Should be fine, as long as you use The Club.. :D:D
