Glad things went well and hope that 6 weeks goes by quickly!
And I wasn't even very high up. The roof is about 10' and my feet were probably only about 8' off the ground. But that was enough!Just saw this, So I'd like to say I'm glad to hear the surgery went well and my wishes to you for a speedy and full recovery !! Indeed, I don't climb high ladders or roofs anymore. These days I heed the 11th commandment " A man's got to know his limitations" ! Get better soon !
Update, how are you feeling? And I wasn't even very high up. The roof is about 10' and my feet were probably only about 8' off the ground. But that was enough!
A little bit painful and sore today now that the nerve blocker has worn off, but much better than Thursday and yesterday morning, before the surgery.
Thanks, guys for all of the well wishes and prayers!!![]()

I have only just found this thread Dave....so sorry to hear about the accident. I hope surgery went well enough for you to heal back to normal....and quickly. Thanks, guys - this means a lot. My ladder squirted out from under me when I was getting off the garage roof. Something I've done many times without incident. Although, I guess it was the first time since I turned 62 - haha. I felt like Wile E Coyote running off the cliff to nothingness, waiting to hit the ground. LOL

At first I thought I might just have a bad bruise, so I iced it for a little while. Then I thought maybe I broke or sprained my foot and/or my ankle. I was a little shocked when the x-rays showed the snapped fibula. My leg is broken in 2 places and my foot is broken on the top and the heel. Plus a bunch of ligament damage. Still, it could have been much worse. I'm very thankful that I didn't land on my head.
I'm in what they call a splint (sort of a soft cast). All it's doing is stabilizing everything until surgery. Nothing has been repaired yet, so it's pretty uncomfortable.

Guess I'm not the only one who's missed the excitement....I have only just found this thread Dave....so sorry to hear about the accident. I hope surgery went well enough for you to heal back to normal....and quickly.
My sister just broke her ankle a few weeks ago on a small sand dune of all things. Twelve weeks in plaster, no weight on the foot, and therapy awaits her.
I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery my friend.![]()
Ain't that the truth, Randy! I've been on the fire department for 34 years, but this thing has me spooked about ever going on my roof again. It's uncomfortable to even re-run the fall in my mind, for some reason. I guess knowing how close I came to being really severely hurt or even dead and knowing I'm no spring chicken anymore all make me cringe to even think about it. I really don't think I'll ever go back up there again. Partially because the anxiety it would cause my wife could lead to a divorce!Guess I'm not the only one who's missed the excitement....
Hope your healing well Dave, gotta limit your ladder time for awhile... Stuff we use to do regularly without worry can kill us now that we've "grown up"...
Ugh, pass my best on to your sister, Roger! Thanks, my friend.I have only just found this thread Dave....so sorry to hear about the accident. I hope surgery went well enough for you to heal back to normal....and quickly.

Thanks, Brian! All the best to you and your ailments, as well! Growing old isn't for wimps, as we know. But that wasn't enough for me, I had to go all Flying Wallenda just for good measure.Wow, Dave, I just found this thread as well. Damn, that sux! Just like all the others, I wish you the best for a full recovery at the speed of light! Although I joke about it, as I get older and everything seems to hurt these says, I thought I might save money & get hypnotized to like pain! I am currently waiting for x-ray results of several areas of my decaying frame. They may just decide to throw me out with trash. What's that daignosis; (Fubar)? "F'd Up Beyond All Repair. I am the oldest guy at my job as well & as sick as it sounds, I think the bean counters upstairs, secretly hope I croak or hit the lottery as then they can hire off the street for Less Money! "Take Care & Repair"! God Bless
On the side, being as you are in Wisconsin; you wouldn't happen to be a Packer fan would you??![]()
I think that is quite common. I get that a lot from jobs when I got close to being scorched or worse.....thinking back about what could have been, can send a shiver up your spine. It's uncomfortable to even re-run the fall in my mind, for some reason.
The length of recovery on ankle is tough. May 5 2009 my ankle fell apart, ligament snapped. First time I could put weight on it Oct 7. Long story from start to finish. Be careful and let it heal. Thanks, Tim! Sadly, my activity is confined to moving to and fro between the recliner and the bathroom, and that's it. Not being able to put any weight on my left leg severely limits my mobility. It was nice out today, and the fighter jets were really loud flying maneuvers over our house. I would have liked to have been able to see them. Tonight was sponge bath night - exciting stuff! I told the Mrs that the flamingo act gets tiring fast - standing on one leg. LOL
