I want to put my console back into my 65 but like having the Hurst rachet shifter. Has anyone managed to mate the two without cutting the console?
Oh ya sold my 73 Charger, and bought a 65 Coronet 500
Thanks
AL

I've seen the "after" pics, but not sure how to do it. It does look nice, so I say find some pics and have at it.

Oh I will have at it...LOL I am sure I will be able do it I was wanted to make sure I don't have to cut the opening in the console any larger.
IF you have seen after pics then it can be done Thanks
AL

Yeah Al....Listen....it 'll work in a 66 Charger console, so.....just send it over to me, you can even help me mock it up in my car .
You'll need to work it around a bit and see if it fits below the old console..That Hurst is cable driven right (no linkage)

Ron

Hey Ron, yes cable driven. I have removed everything inside the console but found I still had to cut the console slot a bit longer because of the shifter travel. I will make up some brakets at work as it will need to be raised a bit. Also I found I need to cut the shifter and bend it forward because it hits the console lid when I have it in 1st. The shifter has the release that need to be pulled up to get her out of park, I have to remove that as well LOL.

Why are you going to all the hassle trying to use the ratchet style? use the original! or don't use the console, makes no sense to cut up an original console, they're too hard to find a nice setup not to mention expensive! JMO! BTW if you use the console I have the top plate and bezel that has been modified still in good cond.I'll swap them for yours! It looks like some one was using the ratchet shifter with reverse lockout!

That is my luck LOL I have made the openning longer already. I didn't have the cable for the original shifer and when I priced it out I found it was $216 for the cable. The console needed attention anyway which is why I din't mind cutting it. I see a few of them on ebay.
I still need to cut and bend the shiter handle to get it to fit right.
I want it to look stock but still have the ratchet style upgrade..
Thanks anyway Steve

I agree mopar steve the originals are very hard to come by and I like the original style look better so I say no also on the retrofiting the original.

I like the look of the original shift as well, I love the feel the shifters odd design But the console came in the trunk with some other parts and the console was not perfect, the brackets that hold the shifter in place were broken almost useless, if you saw a picture of it you would understand why I did it.
I will be looking for a nice clean console at swap meets etc etc but for the time being this will have to do.

Doing a 64 Polara 500. Replaced the cable with home made linkage. Used a B&M ratchet shifter. Used the stock console top and arranged the console to use the existing shifter slot. No cutting required. Works good.
