Thanks for the help on the last '65. I've decided to move on, as I stated in the earlier thread. I've found this white '65 located about 4 hours from my house.

http://blairsville.tristarmotors.com/pre-owned/dodge-coronet-500-1965-187609.html

Its a fully documented restoration. The current owner, who is now 72 (reason for selling) is going to contact the last owner to find out more specifics. What I know now is.

-440 balanced and blueprinted w/ printout and specs
-727
-8.75 rearend
-Car seems to be a mix of 440 (trunk / tail lights) and 500 (interior) trim.
-Incorrect shifter.
-no power steering
-Car is supposedly laser straight with perfect white paint. No marks. Owner said he would pay for all my gas (probably $200) if I didn't think so.
-Interior is professionally done.
-rims are supposed correct Dodge rims. Owner said the dog dish have a "DODGE" stamp on them. I plan on doing a painted steel rim drag radial on the rear with a flat gray 5 spoke on the front.
-multi trophy winner.

I'm supposed to hear back tomorrow with the rest of the info.

Does anyone know this car or have any thoughts? I'm thinking $22.5k?

Thanks again.

For almost 30,000 dollars i,d keep looking...Just my thought..

Looks good. I like a little more original engine but that is easy. Looks solid. Probably try to get some underside shots and ask if the floors / trunk / cowl / quarters are rust free or repaired.
Better than the last one!

Yah, I asked about underneath shots. Owner said the bottom is super clean and was taken care of during the whole restoration. Supposed all original sheet metal. And the have the original title too.

If it started as a rust free project, to get it to that point it would cost you more than that to build it. Figuring you would pay 5 -7500 for a rust free project. And you would have to wait for some body shop and other shops to do it. Buy that one after looking at it closely. And you will enjoying it now. If your fun comes from building it your self, find a nice rust free project and do it.

My 2 cents is find a guy that wants to sell one car to finish another or something of that effect. Stay away from auto brokers as they are just driving up the price on you. Keep looking and don't get in a big hurry. It is a buyers market right now and for the kind of cash that you have shown you are looking to spend you can find a super good car. Personally I don't like the mix on this car, as its to close to stock for the way the engine looks. Its just looks like it does not belong with the car. Keep looking and BTW that 65 2 door post is a SUPER great start! Who ever ownes that one has a great car.

Nope.....!!!!

Nice car.... just not for that money. For one.... it is not a "restored" Coronet 500.... It is a restro mod. I don't see the attention to original detail to be a restoration. It's a little to personalized, not a safe investment at that price.

16/18K would be closer to the mark.

Be patient... keep looking.

remember, it's still somebody elses dream car, ask your self is that the car you really most have, you do understand that the day after you buys this one another one that you want more will come up for sale...

Hah! This is why I've been looking for a year and a half.

The car is actaully owned by the dealerships father. I'm dealing with the owner and not the stealership. His son just did him a favor and put it up on the web.

The car does look nice, and very clean ! ... i think its too much $$$ , but on the other hand... you wouldnt be able to build that for the price .....

I'd suggest you start at $20k and meet him somewhere in the middle between $20 and what he wants ONLY AFTER you thoroughly check it out.

Looks like a neat car.

Don't be afraid to negotiate starting low. If you love the car, try and buy it. Almost everyone asks too much for their car. I would offer maybe $18K, and walk if you don't get the price you like. You got the economy on your side, I doubt the car is an easy sell. As the guys mentioned it's getting real expensive to restore now. Yes it's good to be picky, but you could be cruisin.
Life is short, just my .02

yeah i think a bit over priced its been on ebay a few times in the past year not bad looking car kinda looks like mine.

Correct parts....

The car really does need the correct Coronet 500 tail lights and trunk finish panel to really stand tall. These items are avaliable as reproductions....

Tail light bezels.... $800.00 plus lenses, which are not reproduced.
Trunk finish panel.... $2800.00, last I heard.

This may be a good bargining factor for you.

It wouldn't hurt to lose some of the shiny "niffie naffies" the give the engine that "Chevy" look.

What's your starting point? I mean, do you want original or "mod"? If you want original, than this is way too expensive. If you want "mod", what amount of money was spent to "mod" the car and is/was it worth it? Do you like it as it is now?

Nevertheless...apart from the "Chrevolized" engine bay, the car looks great.

Good luck hunting!!

Note: the heater doesn't work! :)
