I'm having an issue with my top tank seam splitting in my Coronet. This is the second radiator, and the fourth time it's happened. And I found another one on eBay same problem. Anybody else having this issue? Or know about this issue? I'm really confused as to why it's happening. I'm not using a universal radiator hose, everything is tight, nothing seems to be stressing the top hose port.

Thoughts?

Bill,
The radiator cap is designed to release pressure at 16 lbs. if it's working as intended. Pretty hard to split a seam if the cap is good. Have you tried a new cap or got the old one tested? Any parts store should have a Stant tester. Also, check that the overflow hose/tube is open and not clogged. Might be a good idea to take a compression test as well to rule out a bad head gasket pressurizing the cooling system.

The systems used a 13 lb cap. I just installed my 3rd new one. No head gasket leak issues either way. Engine is relatively new with ~6k on it and professionally assembled. Over flow is not clogged.

My thought is: No one cares about the Mazda in your sig. Especially the guy who fixed your radiator. ;-)

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Old sig, I'll change it when I get a chance. Get over it, and thanks for your expert on topic addition to this thread.

Just for information: My 63 FSM lists: 14 lb. cap for all engines W/O air,
16lb. for all engines with A/C
Not going to solve your problem, whatever it is...

I had my '62 radiator top tank off a while ago and it had 4 cracks in it. Silver soldered them up with shim patches on inside before soldering tank back on. Common problem on old brass.

I think Dart is on to something about the old brass. Wish someone made an alum radiator that more closely resembled a factory one. I got tired of issues with my 65 A/C car and finally went the alum champion route.
