Just wondering if the 66 + 67 Belvedere II hood ornaments are the same? I need to change mine from 383 to 440 and most of the ones I see listed are for 67, at least the new ones anyway. Can I use a 67 ornament on my 66?

Yes you can this is from a 67 Satellite
There were no 440's in a 66 B-Body

Thing is, in 66, the engine displacement looked back at the driver......

The piece between the hood and ornament is different. 66 piece is longer. 66 on right.

Exactly, I didnt know it either, but thats why I'm here with you guys, I'm no expert. Thanks Fran, very kind of you to post that.

The only original plymouth 440 hood ornament would have come on a c body.
Correct?

Not original to the car, but on my '67 Satellite it shows 440 on both sides of the emblem and it's just black/chrome. Likely a re-pop from eBay.

Can't recall ever seeing one with the call out on both sides......

Have no idea. The 440 came out in 66 in the passenger cars iirc but 67 was the first year for the hi-po 440 so I'm guessing that the C body could have had one.....?

I should rephrase the question,
Was there ANY plymouth B body's that came with a 440 ornament.
Just the 67 X maybe

YearOne re-pops the 383 & 440 hood ornament emblem assembly for the Belvedere/GTX in either red VC5334RED or black VC5334BLK versions. @Jerry Hall is correct I think as the only OEM/used one's I have seen are in red so mine is likely non-standard to B-Body.

There was a 1966 hood ornament with 440 decal . I believe its 1966 sport fury

And are very hard to find

Id like to offer a different explanation
for the 2 different shaped bases than post #5 has.

the B body hood profile is a sharper V shape than the C body hood which is flatter. If you check the 2 different ornaments below the B body base has the long and skinny shape and a sharper V on the bottom. The C body base has the short wide shape and flatter on the bottom.

I believe the bases are the same between 1966 and 1967, but differ between B-body and C body

In looking at these more, I think the reason for the b body base being longer is to get the locating pin out further forward so nobody can install the wrong base on the wrong hood. The C body base has the locator pin at the rear. You see the hole in the base is rounded on the right edge where the ornament passes through.

On B bodies I have installed 66 ornaments on a 67 hood so that locator pin hole is in the same place.

Makes sense to me as I told 66 and 67 B body hoods were the same.

But yet the 67 ornament and base i have is flat and does not fit my hood.
So i reused my original 66 base and the repop 67 ornament on my car for a while.

A 440 ornament for 66 is extremely hard to find.
