Helpful, but not as detailed as my service manual. I looked at transmission it left out a lot. Been posting for a guy who starts his car and the trans doesn't engage for a while, drains back.

have him start the car in neutral, that way it will engage when shifted

Oldbee suggested that didn't get answer to that yet. He sighted higher pressure in neutral. It's thought the trans torque converter is draining . He has a service manual I posted page that what to look for/fixes for delayed engagement. Think he decided just to pull trans and have a look.

yes, trans converter is draining back...but when you start the car in neutral, the pump starts pumping fluid through the trans internally...if in park, no fluid being pumped, hence delay in going into gear

In the 1966 service manual. I looked at the diagram with blue and orange flow chart for neutral and park. The line pressure ii park is 5 to 30 psi. In neutral the line pressure is 55 psi. Why, manual valve is in a slightly different position. If you don't look at the blue and orange flow chart you'll never see it. The manual valve is in upper right of diagram in my service manual. Oil pressure, pump suction, converter and lubrication are there on the page.
