I need advice on a car. Went to look at a 196 coronet 440 318 auto convertible. Complete car in full primer. Been sitting for a few years. Body seems solid accept a few spots in the trunk. The man is asking $5,000 for the car. What are your thoughts about this car?

Thanks for any help with this, Clint Bazemore.

How are the floors? 2 to 3k to do interior, depending your skill. Cost of painting.

check the frame rails and anything "convertible" (trim around body, back seat, back seat interior, etc that is convertible-only). Looks like a nice car to me. If you like it and want to drive it, go for it. If you want to flip it and make money, probably walk away. I like it.

It would be a driver. Was not thinking about flipping. I had a 65 fury convertible and let it get away. Thinking this might be a second chance for a nice rag top.

I would want a complete car for that price. Grill, bumpers, tail panel, seats, etc. That stuff adds up real fast and not always easy to find. Anything else missing? Those rear interior panels beside the rear seats are pretty spendy and hard to come by for convertibles. Check those floorpans for rust.

It is a complete car. All removed to complete body work. The man had a heart attac and had to stop working on it.

I could see 5g if the bottom is as nice as you'd hope.
I got this deal in a long story the same way . Yours looks more complete in comparison. I didn't get a top, and some other convert parts.

But so far, I've got another nice one to piece together too lol

Not gonna get many ragtops in semi-solid condition at that price. If I were in the hunt for that, I'd probably grab it. Furthermore, on this particular car, I'd ditch the 318 drivetrain and do a minor resto-mod with a late Hemi drivetrain.

Agreed.
And a lot will depend on your capabilities to finish it .

Keep in mind a 1966 coronet is not at the top of most peoples want list should you decide or have to resell .

But 5k is a decent buy in to get a b body drop top .

The hemi swap is a great idea. I already have the intake, efi system and msd ignition system. I will go back and look at the spots pointed out.
Thanks for the responses.
