67 Coronet R/T Engine question

Hi, as I mentioned in my new member post, I'm researching a 1967 Coronet R/T. The seller says it's a true R/T, but in speaking with him on the phone he said it's carrying a 440, but was originally a 383 car. In looking at various documentation from yearone, and a few other sites online, it says the base engine for the '67 R/T is the 440. Was it possible to order the R/T with a 383, or does this guy have some bad info?

The base engine for a 1967 R/T was the 440; the 426 was optional.

Not possible to get a 383 in a 1967 R/T from the factory new. Yes he has some bad info.
440 Magmun 375 h.p. standard and the only option in 1967 models was the Hemi.
Beginning in the 1971 model year they added one optional engine--440-6.

VIN should begin with WS23L. Make sure the rivets look good.
Fender tag should also have WS23, and an "83" for a 440 engine.
Those are good places to start.

Lots of 67 Coronet 500s have been cloned into R/Ts because the tail light panel is the same and they are likely to have bucket seats.
The 383 (both 2bbl G and 4bbl H code) was also a popular engine option in 500s.

Looks like you've got some time to get your ducks in a row. Good on you to start your research now, from the sound of it, you may know more about his vehicle when you get there than him which is a powerful position to be in. Good luck.
 
I concur...67 R/t and GTX was 440 or optional 426..also only year for 916 heads and chrome valve covers..all else were painted

That looks like a great car, unfortunately it's out of my price range right now. I'm not looking to purchase anything until June at the earliest anyway as I'm pinching pennies so I can pay cash if I do find something that trips my trigger.
 
OK - So I have a 1967 Coronet 500 R/T convertible project car in my barn. It has a fender tag which I have never bothered to decode, but does have a 383 and 727? Sounds like I need to decode that tag as you all have peaked my interest. I am pretty certain the 500 and R/T emblems are real and original - any feedback would be appreciated.

Pretty easy to tell and you don't need the tag info. Look at the VIN.

WP = Coronet 500. WS = Coronet R/T.

Coronet R/T = 440 (WS27L) or Hemi (WS27J)
Coronet 500 = 318 (WP27F), 383-2 (WP27G) or 383-4 (WP27H)

Bluenotefan, i have a 67 R/T and am in Illinois. I would like to sell it quick so how does $3000 sound? Needs floor pan and lower quarters. Original 440 car but has a 67 383 in it now. Let me know if interested..:headbang:
