How about having your springs re-arched or getting custom springs? A buddy of mine had air shocks and loved em but the problem is using the shocks to raise the car puts a lot of the cars weight on the shock mounts, where it wasnt designed to be.

regarding air shocks though, inflating them doesnt make them stiffer, as you're not changing the dampening valving of the shock. Maybe the modern ones are better, but my buddy's air shocks (going back prob to 1990) had a sort of bounciness to them from the air compressing when the shock is compressed and the rebounding when the load comes off.

Been running the same air shocks on my 67 since about 1980. Just gotta add air a couple times during the cruising season. LOL

Alright guys.i hear ya.i never thought about new springs.but i'll do that in thenear future. But,for now sounds like air shocks do the trick.i just need somthing right now so my tires stop rubbing on the inner fender well.thanks guys and God Bless.Barry..!

changing out the springs would be the best way to do it

I agree that new or rebuilt and re-arced springs would be best. Air shocks are ok if you don't get too carried away with the air pressure. Just because they say you can run 200psi in them doesn't mean it's a good idea. I've run air shocks on my Belvedere for many years with no problems, but I only run around 80-100psi.

I also agree with changing/re arching the springs...Blocks are not an option because the springs sit under the axle...add a block, push the axle further up into the car, thus lowering it. Air shocks ride rougher and burden the shock crossmember. Long shackles effect handling in a few different ways and not for the better. A taller tire will also raise the car, but stray too far out and you'll need to install the correct speedo gear.

Good luck.

Stop picking up fat chicks. Or maybe get some heavy duty shocks that have helper spring mounted with them.
