Gentlemen, the dimmer switch on my 67 GTX has a mind of its own from the day I purchased the car. I pulled the headlight switch for inspection and the rheostat looked a little oxidized so I cleaned it up reinstalled it, same problem. harness contacts looks perfect .
I changed out the headlight switch with a standard motor new piece, same problem. Its feels like there's a sweet spot and if you turn the dimmer the dash lights flicker and go out along with everything on that circuit (tach and console lighting) and wont come back on unless I pull on and off the headlight switch wiggling the dash knob until it finds that sweet spot.
It almost seams like a physical problem.like the pointer on the rheostat loses contact. so for shits and giggles I bent the pointer to apply more pressure and it seams like it made some improvement but still the same problem.
I purchased a NOS switch, installed it and same thing. all the wiring is original and under the dash and looks time capsule fresh..fuses have been replaces and fuse box looks clean.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Look on eBay for Mopar dimmer switch rebuild service from the guy in CA. Problem solved.

Just sounds like a lousy switch or it could not be grounding correctly, make sure the ground is good off the back of the switch, there's a little blade terminal there that should be connected to a good grounded wire connector. Also my car used to melt headlight switches, the headlight switch harness, and the high low foot switches before I used headlight relays and that could create contact problems in the connectors. That issue would cause my headlights to go on and off at random. My dimmer switch is a little wonky too, but not too bad. It just turns off all the dash lights when turned all the way up to the left before the dome light switch engages but comes back on turning it back to the right a bit.. Don't know your level of abilities, but I'd install relays, and pick up another switch if the grounding isn't the issue. Relays aren't totally necessary to resolve your issue but I like em. The switch is available anywhere pretty much. Autozone, Napa, O-O-O-O'rielys

Note that the dash lights in these cars are on the same circuit as the tail lights. Check and see if your tail lights flicker too. Could be a bad connection at the fuse box.

Likewise, corroded connectors?
