Hi, i have a 426 Hemi that was stored for 25 years. It had 500 miles on a rebuild before it was stored. Put new seals in it and checked bearings and inside for rust (there wasn't any). used a bore scope to check cyldinder walls (looked good). I did not pull the heads. When I stomp on the gas it boggs and backfires oput the carbs. Starts and idles real good. It seems to happen when the front carb opens up. Set dwell to 38* total and timing to 8 degrees. New fuel pump and filters and kits put in carbs. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, Archie

Clearly it does not like the Montana weather. I suggest you sell it to me.

But I think it would be much happier in CA!

I assume you are running the original Prestolite dual point? Otherwise that dwell is way to high for single. Make sure both sets of points are the same. If I recall each set will run about 25 degrees and to check them block each set open and adjust as required. Do this before you set timing. Timing should be about 32 deg total (not the same as a wedge). Also have a look at the accelerator pumps to see if they are providing a good pump shot. Am I also to assume the engine has a stock cam and set up as a street hemi?

You guys gave it all wrong, it needs to reside in the same weather condition here in Mass. All kidding aside, have you gone through the ignition system completely? New gas I assume?

YOUR ALL WRONG IT BELONGS IN OHIO :icon_fU:

Is the accelerator pump working & the jets squirting in the front carb? How old are the plug wires and/or have you checked to make sure that two are not crossed or arcing?

Has dual point. .Each set to 26 dwell. Total timing is 32 degrees at 1800 rpm then backfires

Accelerator pumps put out a good squirt of fuel from both carbs.
