Hello to everyone and thanks for all of the help in the past. I have a problem that hopefully someone can help me with. My '68 383 has had trans. problems, it is currently out for the third time and the so called transmission shop cannot fix it, but the car sat for three weeks up on ramps and when I let it down it absolutely ran like it was on about six cylinders. I put new plugs, wires, and a carb kit in the Holley 600 cfm that is on it, tried to adjust the timing to tdc and all of that did absolutely no good. There is a mopar elect. Ig. system on there. I am at a loss to figure this out. Is it possible that moisture got in there somewhere? I took off the dist. cap and wiped everything down but nothing seems to help. Funny thing is that when you get on it it runs great. It just idles terribly and cuts out when you are running along in high gear. Also, does the electronic ignition change the timing settings in any way, or should that be set according to factory specs? Thanks again for any help on this. Between the trans and this I am about ready to give it up.

Did you suspect water in the distributor? If so hose it out with WD40. Sometimes wiping it out won't get it all and WD is good at dealing with water.

The electronic ignition is just an amplifier and has no timing controls.

The factory specs are according to a "factory" motor. Is yours still factory correct? Any changes and those factory settings may not be the best for your engine.

I am going to pull the dist. and check that. There seemed to be some moisture around the top of the engine. I live in Charlotte and it has rained here for three weeks, and my garage is cool and condensation is a definite possibility. I'll pull the dist. and check it. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the info. I probably need to double check everything on it. The transmission problem that I have been having with a so called builder has driven me nuts, so I need to get on the engine specs.
