Interesting thing I’ve noticed… 1968 was the last year you saw door handles on “stock cars”. The ‘68 Plymouths also still had the vent wings and door glass. That all disappeared for 1969.
They probably weren't anything. Plymouth gave the race teams a 'body in white', it had no trim, engine, glass, seats, upholstery or anything else that would have been pulled out for racing.. Probably didn't have a VIN either.they 'may' (?) have been Satellites, but called them RRs
The vent wings look stock to me.Petty ran the vinal top to hide how much they cheated the roof on the car. The windsheild was raked back and lowered, and the rear window was lowered on the top edge. The 68 Plymouth was probably Pettys most cheated car, trying to keep up with Fords areo cars, while driving a brick. The vynal top couldn't stay on at speed, and the roof work could be seen after it peeled back, that's why they are beating it with hammers in that picture. Nascar can't put a template on dented metal. If you look at the side shots of the car the windshield rake is obvious when compaired to a stock 68 Plymouth.

The hood is pretty much what makes the Satellite as that was the base model in ‘71 a road runner. They probably weren't anything. That was the plan, they had to appear stock, but they were probably modified, and the bottom lower corners of the vent windows shaved to appear stock. I never seen a curve in the driprail over the door window on a stock Plymouth. Lowering and leaning the glass back even a few degrees can make a huge difference at speed. The vent wings look stock to me.
I’m not arguing. I just don’t see a difference on the vent wing or the windshield. Your top pic here is a better angle. And we are looking at pix from years ago so there might be some distortion. I have heard that something was up with the roof, but it got hit by debris at 180 MPH. Idk…Petty ran the vinal top to hide how much they cheated the roof on the car. The windshield is definitely laid back and lowered. Petty himself said that the car was the most cheated car he ever raced. The roof was peeling because they cut and modified it. They put a vinal top on it to distract officials from scrutinizing what they had done.I’m not arguing. I just don’t see a difference on the vent wing or the windshield. You probably have more of them than I do… I currently have 4 ‘68 Plymouth B bodies and a ‘70 Charger. My ‘68 Satellite Wagon looks nothing like the ‘70 Charger. And I’m pretty sure the only shared external sheet metal is the cowl and A pillars. The vent wings appear to be the same on all of them as well. If the windshield was raked backwards, the A pillars would have to be at the same angle. That’s why I said I see no difference in the vent wings. In your pic they even have the chrome piece on the bottom. I guess all of it didn’t matter anyway. The Cale Yarborough driven Wood Brothers Mercury had the fast back… Sport Roof in Ford nomenclature. Cale’s car was pretty much in the lead all day. We can thank that car for the ‘68 Hemi Charger 500’s existence. I personally like the tunnel back much better. The windshield is definitely laid back and lowered. Petty himself said that the car was the most cheated car he ever raced. First time I heard any of that. I do remember a ‘66 Chevelle that Smokey Yunick had that was supposedly 7/8th.They racked the vent window frames back, and modified the vent glass to appear stock. They basically did the same thing to this car, that Kindig did to the 67 Coronet R/T on his show. Something hit the roof causing the vinyl top to peel back, and revealing what they had done to the roof. That's why they beat it with hammers to damage the area so Nascar would not be able to put a template on the car.
