68/70 727 shift lever c/c length.

Anyone have a console shift 727 that's handy to measure the center to center length, from shaft hole to linkage hole for me? THANKS!

I know this lever is wrong, as it doesn't have the 2nd hole to install the column lock out assembly for '70 only and while I have park, all the way down into "1st" still shifts into 2nd when driving, so lever appears to be too long for correct geometry. Hoping this is all that is wrong with my rev up going 2nd to Drive yesterday.

More confusion, 69 and 70 parts manuals show the exact same lever # being 2801 828, which doesn't make sense considering the lock out on '70.

On my 70 GTX it looks to be right at 3 1/8 measuring from the outside of the throttle valve shaft to the outside of the pin through the lever. Hard to measure with everything hooked up on the car. My linkage goes up from the bottom of the lever. I can get pictures in the morning.

I'd say center (black dot) to center 3 1/4.........kinda tough with the stacked levers....... and reaching through a pile of ****

I think they might be the same lever as the linkage is all different for the lock out mechanism as it all stacks up at the lever. Here's what it looks like

Went through the beat up shifter again. Straightened out the main frame some, slotted the removable plate holes so I could make it fit tighter and grabbed some of my bushing stock to take all the slop and play out of the shifter. That certainly changed things as I then had to lengthen the lever rod 3/16 to get positioning correct. Pouring rain, so test drive has to wait.

I think mine needs the same thing as there seems to be quite a bit of play in it. Probably only 50 years worth.

PM me your name/address/phone# and I'll send you 2 of the bushings I used for helping me out with pictures. Simple redrill at 1/2" with a uni-bit and they then tap in snug.

On a side note, is that a P38 mat you are working on?? Very cool
 
Snuck in a quick test drive, as looks like the last chance until Spring with 10 days of rain and snow in the forecast. Quick stop at the local waterfront park, where the Wife took the Granddaughter, so I could see her ride her bike and then carried on. All seems to be working exactly like it should. Hopefully that stays the case! My heart beat has lowered a tad...
