68 Charger production differences

eldubb440, "You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action. " pops up for me on that gonorrhea link.

I had an early 68 parts car long ago that had the slide down ash tray and different tail lights brackets in the trunk but sadly no fender tag. The other unique early car feature this car had were the 3 anti left screws under the flip gas cap vs phillips screws.

Yes. Is that just sitting in there? Looks like that one that screw the cap base through the trim ring into the body.

I have all three screwed into little chucks of cardboard... Been like that for at least thirty years... Saved the cap off a car that was being scrapped & it's been on assorted shelves ever since...

Still a work in progress. Chasing down the gremlins in the dash. Still have finish plumbing the AC. Car runs and shifts well. Put in the USCT Level II Chassis Stiffing kit. Night and Day difference in how the car handles now.

Does anyone know when in the 1968 production year the square chrome buttons were eliminated from the map pockets? It was sometime in prior to May 15, but I'm not sure when. I suspect it probably was done around the same time the dash emblem got changed. Can anyone narrow down their production dates with these changes?

I replaced my original door panels, but still have them. They came with the chrome buttons and fratzog on the dash. 4/23 build.

So somewhere between 4/23 & 5/15 the map pocket buttons disappeared, but the dash emblem changed sometime befor 4/23. Thanks. Hopefully others will chime in.

Can we go by the VIN to establish a rough build date? When I bought my 68 it had been recently restored and those buttons were with the car but not installed. I have no FT or BS. I’ve seen cars with and without them and often wondered why. Didn’t realize it was a partial year thing.

What’s the other dash emblem? Mine says RT but I expect all RT cars got that one.

My 68, build of 5/17, has the 69 style button and no stainless on map pockets

I have to check my original panels and report back, but I think there was a date code stamped on the back of the card. I would have reused my buttons but it looked like they were peened over on the back so I had to get repros. From what I've seen, most of the repro panels didn't include the square buttons. Possibly some do now.

If you have one that says R/T, that’s an aftermarket piece. The two that came from the factory are the ones in the two pictures that I posted this morning.
